HUGE map file size...(how do you reduce?)

Post by Barny »

ok, i looked at my map folder in my addon..it was 427MB...i almost fainted.... :faint:
I looked in particular, the side folder had 387MB. the rep files combined are 250MB, cis files combined are 102MB, and the other 2 files in there (kit.lvl yes i have kit fisto as hero..and tur.lvl)
are 38MB (tur is 34MB) HOW do they become so large? :runaway: DOES anyone know how to reduce this?

You can actually do things a lot quicker:

1-Go to /data_[YOURMAP]/side/[SIDE NAME]
2-Open [SIDE NAME].req
3-Remove any lines your aren't using - for example, if you're not using Obi-Wan as a hero, remove the line that says "rep_hero_obiwan"
4-Clean and re-munge that side (the munge knows what files you want by that req file, so it will only munge what you tell it to)

Typically by just removing all of the extra entries from each side you can cut anywhere from 30-70% off the file size. As far as tur.lvl goes, if you're not loading any custom stationary turrets you don't need it.
