Sony Vegas+ Garry's Mod problem
I'm using the trial version of Sony Vegas for the simple fact that it is the only video editing software I can found where I can simply just drag and drop media onto tracks without a hitch, and I have no intention of using the special effects plugins whatsoever. I recorded several demos in Garry's Mod so I can make a wacky machinima when suddenly any time I try to import a file I get "An unexpected error has ocurred: {filename} could not be opened" and it doesn't say why or how this happened. This has terrible implications. This was the only software I could find that had an indefinite amount of tracks on the timeline so I could have multiple audio and video tracks, and all the other programs I found had confusing and just plain annoying interfaces. What am I to do? Am I absolutely screwed?

Sony Vegas is very professional software that takes a while to master. If you're looking for simplicity I'd recommend Windows Movie Maker, which usually comes pre-installed with Windows.
As for your problem, I'd check what type of file you're putting into Vegas and see if they are compatible. Also maybe a little more detail as to how you are "importing" them would be nice.

@fasty, no he just said movie maker wasn't good enough because it doesn't have enough tracks.
@Darth_Schoolbus, What is the video file extension type you recorded?
EDIT: fasty is right, vegas is professional quality software that takes more than 30 days to figure out. If you can't figure it out I can edit it for you if you'd like.

Looks like you need to download and install a .dem codec for Vegas to use so that it can read .dem files. (Note: the first two posts of that link are really the only ones relevant, as the rest is about how he can't get .avi files to read. Also, I don't do much video recording, so that's about as much help as I can give you.)
