Gametoast problem
I am pretty new to gametoast and I really like it. It has a great community and the people are nice. However, I happen to be facing a major problem. Almost half of the times that I try to log in, it says that the board has been disabled. This is starting to annoy me because I want to post things but most of the time, the board is disabled, and I can't get onto gametoast forums. Does this happen to other people? Is there a solution to this problem? (this is the second time that i am typing this because the board was disabled the first time.)

Re: Gametoast problem
When it says "board disabled," just click the login tab anyway. It should let you log in; I think users with valid names have priority over nonusers.

Re: Gametoast problem
That shouldn't be a problem unless you're actually trying to post. The board can still be browsed when it's disabled, I believe.

What does it mean when the board is disabled?

Re: Gametoast problem
Means that changes to the boards are disabled (i.e. no new posting, no editing, etc.). I'm not 100% sure on that, but that appears to be the gist of what the symptoms of a "Board Disabled" message is.

Re: Gametoast problem
oh ok. When it is disabled, sometimes I can click on the gametoast header and get to the forums. Also, how long is the board typically disabled? (is disabling the board guru's doing?)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I got the board disabled like 4 times trying to post here! You can't do anything when the little red board disabled happens. It happens to me like 10 times a day now!

When the forum system uses up over a specified amount of CPU Resources it disables the bored (Turning it offline to all but Administrators/ Or anyone else with permissions to view Offline boreds.)

Guru doesn't get but just a few dollars of donations a year to keep gametoast alive. I'd say it's fine.

If he accepted non-internet based payments he'd get a bit more.

It's really variated. It can be a few seconds and it can be a few minutes or more.obiboba3po wrote:oh ok. When it is disabled, sometimes I can click on the gametoast header and get to the forums. Also, how long is the board typically disabled? (is disabling the board guru's doing?)

Re: Gametoast problem
I am aware the site is difficult with "disabled messages" and that timeouts suck while posting.
the real issue :
Part 1 - I used to have it on here so users could auto login, well the new code in phpbb3 hangs in Mysql and doesnt know how to end its process. so in short version the code makes the server lag so i had to turn down some features (due to this issue i honestly like phpbb2 better). I have fine tuned Mysql and php and it gets down to the board code is so heavy and incomplete that it leaves msl processes running all day and every time a user logged in that would just add more, even if they left the processes were out of control. so i turned off perisistant logins (which does suck)
part 2 - Getting the evil "board disabled" msg means that the with everything going on the server at that exact moment the board is being used at a higher rate then allowed based on my settings. It can go from "unused" to "slammed" 50 times in a minute. If the board has more then a load of 5 on it (which basically is the same as your processor at home having 5 times the load it can handle i.e. your P4 intel is a 3.ghz and you have 12ghz of actions-processes- draining your system) all of a sudden at random times. If gt is not set to be "disabled" at high usage then essentially the server will explode. shared hosting means this site is on my server with a gajillion other sites and until someone else pays for dedicated hosting this site will remain in a state of "use at your own login, relogin, get the message over and over risk"
Its funny cuz on monday - thurs. the site load and server load in fact is 0.06 - 0.20 which is the same as unused.
On friday - sunday the server (AND GT) are at 6.00 most of the time. meaning LOTS of people use everything on my servers all weeekend long. haha.
I may try to just totally shut off the load limiter and see what happens! hahaha i can always set it back. here goes let me know.

Well if you changed something including today I indeed see something different:
Half an hour board disabled
Funny, guess it's busy.
