Hi everyone!
I'm working with a test space map and currently my goal is to make a pilotable star destroyer (I know it's been said that it can't be done, but I've scaled back a lot of things to make it possible). Now what I've done so far is just used the Jedi Starfighter odf for my odf, and I've used XSI to put the pieces of the Republic Star Destroyer together into one model (it takes a long time to munge but it doesn't lag in-game). The only issue so far is that there seems to be something wrong with the collisions. It will randomly be bumping into things when there is nothing near it (as in no starfighters). So I'm reluctant to add a specific collision geometry because I'm not sure if that will help and if it doesn't then that's just adding to the munge time and possibly lagging the game.
(And yes I did change the setting in the odf so that the collisionscale isn't 1.5 or whatever, it's now 0.99)
Thanks in advance.

Re: Flying Star Destroyer Issue
This has always been possible and has been done, heck I made Pandemic's Venator flyable almost 3 years ago and i'm sure others have as well, it's just a matter of merging the pieces together in XSI.jedimoose32 wrote:...my goal is to make a pilotable star destroyer (I know it's been said that it can't be done, but I've scaled back a lot of things to make it possible).
[mechanic]Well there's your problem right there...[/mechanic]jedimoose32 wrote:The only issue so far is that there seems to be something wrong with the collisions...I'm reluctant to add a specific collision geometry...
I don't know what you've done with your ODF but you should've at least built proper collision for the model first.
Moved to 3D Modeling & Animation for now

Okay, thanks. It's just that when I used Search to find anything to do with flying capital ships, all the topics I found said it couldn't be done

i think AceMastermind meant something different than you think
you can make everything a vehicle but you CANT make a capital ship with all the stuff in it (commandpost, vehiclespawns etc.) a moving vehicle/prop/whatever

Re: Flying Star Destroyer Issue (still need help)
I know. All I'm doing is taking the external separate models of a Venator Star Destroyer (e.g. the engines, the bridge, the four main sections of the fuselage) and merging them into one model and it flies just like a V-Wing or any other ship. There's no spawning inside of it or anything like that.DarthD.U.C.K. wrote:but you CANT make a capital ship with all the stuff in it (commandpost, vehiclespawns etc.) a moving vehicle/prop/whatever
EDIT: Okay, I added a basic collision geometry, following the instructions to the letter (of course that's what everyone says and it always turns out they missed something important). But now my Venator is invisible. And the messed up collision is the same, if not a bit worse.

I know this doesn't sound like a good solution, but you may just have to build a whole new venator from scratch. But if you build it from scratch, you could actually make a better Venator than Pandemic's, i.e., one better suited for flying.jedimoose32 wrote:I know.
