Too Much Planning?

Post by lucasfart »

ok, i munged my map after adding a whole tonne of connections and hubs, and upon munging, the log stated that there was an error because the maximum amount of connections was 255(off the top of my head, not the exact wording. my map had roughly 350-400 :D . after munging it, i remunged and the error didn't show up. bfront2.log didn't have any errors about too many connections either......

also, is it bad for gameplay speed to have too many connections/options for the ai? my map has ALOT of connections/hubs so i just want to know if i should get rid of about 150 :(

If the munge log says you have too much, you have too much. Remove some, otherwise battlefront AI will ignore parts of your planning. (or the map crashes, don't remember)

Once you get an error and without doing a clean you may not see the error generated on a remunge but that doesn't mean the error went away.
Try using barriers to assist in guiding you wayward AI to where you want them to go if you can't get the Hub count down.

It happens, try to prioritize your connections, also, if your map is a little open try to make bigger hubs and connections to cover more terrain, once you have some basic plannings try to make the extra stuff.

A little something to keep in mind: You don't need planning to lead to every little thing. They're more of a guide that helps AI navigate to CPs, using hubs as waypoints. Try making the connections longer (combine any that don't need the extra hub) where they can afford to be, and shorten them later if there's a need to optimize a leg due to long idle times, and the like.

I'm not saying make the planning inefficient, if it appears that way, but it seems like you're trying to get the AI to walk up to every little corner using planning, and it's really not necessary. The AI can get to things not on the graph.

The basics are in ZeroEditor_guide.doc, and there are a few more advanced notes here:
