legality questions

Post by Anakin »

Hi,

i have some questions about legality and modding after i think there where some of you discussing about this thema.

So i know there are a few Republic Commando Sounds extracted from RC. I may want to extract some more. Is this legal??

Also i remember some of you said we are not allowed to take images from the Internet for textures on the models. What about the original RC textures/models extracted from the game??

you should find answers in the copyright policy thread.
especially for sounds very few people have the knowledge/ability to make new ones. therefore it is difficult to find alternatives and alright if you use them.
textures are not easy to create either but there are quite a lot people who can do that so there are more "alternatives".
even more people can make models so there is really no need to rip them from another game.
my humble opinion is that ripped models shouldnt be used. if people want to play with models from the original game they should play the original game.

I could not agree more. However, when I am skinning a model, I may use a texture from the internet, ex. a metal-looking texture. But I never rip a model from a game, and I do not have the knowledge on how to take off sounds .
