Shield impact effects...

Post by Rekubot »

Okay, instead of that stupid big green shield impact effect I want a smaller, blue one which is more like what you see in Republic Commando. The effect is called com_sfx_shieldimpact_sm, but I can't find a single file apart from itself that mentions it anywhere. Now, if it is mentioned somewhere then surely I can just edit the effect and everything will be okay right? Well, not really, considering that you have to rename the effect for it to work. So say I renamed it to com_sfx_shieldimpact_sm2, I now need to find the .ODF (?) file that mentions it. Any idea where that might be? Or as Pvtparts said are the creators hiding it selfishly? Thanks in advance.

The only .LUA file that I could find that had anything to do with shields was LinkedShields.lua, and that hasn't got the impact effect in it. Maybe the effect is just written in the code.

I'm guessing hard-coded.

Seeing as you have to change the name to save it properly, you could simply rename it and then once edited it name back to the original. Would that work?

No, it's not as easy as that. Basically you can't edit shipped effects. However, I managed to change the droideka shield effect by editing it in Notepad, so I'll see if I can do the same with com_sfx_shieldimpact_sm.
