Simple glow; texture?
I got a question.. I have a new model, with 1 material. I apply the glow to the whole mesh. Is it possible to make some things glow, and some things not through the texture? Like the eyes for example? I thought the assets used a way of making most of the texture half transparent, and the things to be env-ed completely visible.. Anyone got explanation on this one?

Easiest way is to subdivide the model so that there are polygons on the parts the you want to glow. select just those polies when you apply the glow flag then export. I it also helpful when you are doing the color at verteces map if you do one.

Okay clear, I normally used this way but wondered if there was a more easy way. What is the texture way? And also, when you divide the mesh, is it usable with Meshtool?FragMe! wrote:Easiest way is to subdivide the model so that there are polygons on the parts the you want to glow. select just those polies when you apply the glow flag then export. With mshex I am not sure if it will do color at vertex maps, but if it does you could just try doing the color map making the glowing bits much lighter than the non glowing bits. That way you can set the glow for the whole model with mshex and it should only really glow where you painted it.
Or at least it sounds like a good theory
Edit and that way you may not have to subdivide the model as much.

Color vertex maps.. How do you do this? It sounds like a luxury! Just apply the glow to the whole mat, and then color it with this? Sounds good!

It is pretty easy to do.
Select your model then under properties on the left side select color at verteces map.
The press CTL W which calls up one configuration/color selection screen, you can also adjust you pen size here. The press W with your cursor over any viewport and start painting.
XSI docs can explain it a bit better than my shaky memory
