Space: Boarding Action 0.6 beta

Post by MercuryNoodles »

Before I obsess over the map further, I've finally decided to give up some of the progress I'd been withholding. This is mostly a bug fix release, so there aren't a lot of new features this time around. Truth be told, I've had this version for so long that I've forgotten how much of a difference there really is between this and the original beta release. Anyway, the changes are noted in the WIP thread (page 9, barring the planned features) and in the readme.

A note on the teleports: The ISD bridge exit is the corner to the right of where you appear, and the MonCal bridge exit is set similarly via the short hall leading out of the right side of the bridge. The exits send you to a point near the Life Support systems.

Just be warned the filesize is still disproportionately large, and currently stands at 258 MB after extraction. However, the compressed filesize is 88.3 MB, so it should be a much quicker download than last time.

Download Space: Boarding Action 0.6b

That's about all. Feel free to report any bugs, particularly the more obscure ones, so I can add them to the worklog. Most importantly, have fun!

You! Cake or death?!

I've always loved the concept of starship raiding, so I'll try this out!

While freecamering, I noticed that the SD has a bridge that you can walk into, but there are no passage ways leading to it. Is this a room planned for future versions?

You don't need passage ways to get to the bridge; you teleport!

There's a teleporter in the detention section that will take you to the bridge. In any case, I believe there should be more cps in the ships, as well as allowing all cps to be captured. The map is very nicely put together. I did notice that the AI don't really spawn a lot in enemy ships when one of the cps is captured. Anyway, great map!

Speaking of the bridge, how do you get out? I couldn't find a way.

There you go.

I like the new version very much, nice job! I found a couple bugs here and there, but I will get to that after I take some screenshots...

The install instructions tell of another folder, CMB that is meant to be put somewhere. Is that the .lvl file I found inside the ISD folder?

I am noticing lots of missing localizations, is that why?

Well, i think the only bug i report for now is the missing shotgun sounds.

I also believe you have a trooper that is meant to use the DLT-20?

You can find my release of such a proper model(well, just a proper scope) in the released assets links k.

The AI not spawning at the newly captured CP (or the transports) has something to do with their spawning at the inboard CP, out of the fighter call radius, leaving them somewhere in the interior. Since so few die at once in space, you get only a few spawning in as replacements.

The CMB folder contains first person views. The missing localizations are simply something I've yet to complete, as I've only dealt with one language so far.

DLT-20? I'll have to recheck my weapon designations, but I've only really focused on the DH-17 and T-21 so far. I've kept the stock weapons for everything else. If you mean the DLT-19, that's a different weapon, and the stock model seems fine at the moment. I've not stumbled across a really amazing model for it that I'd want to use yet.

Keep 'em comin'!

Hmm, i mean one of the alliance units uses the sniper rifle model, but its a rifle more than a sniper rifle(rapid fire, extreme inaccuracy)

Therefore, the only rifle resembling the stock all_sniperrifle is the DLT-20. Not to be confused with the DLT-19 (which bears similarity to the IMP_sniperrifle)

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/DLT-20A_blaster_rifle

I kitbashed out a proper scope for it and released the weapon. Just using the all sniper rifle doesnt seem appropriate. Though u ask for only fantastic changes. Mine weren't as magnificient(the scope i textured could be UV-ed more properly...) But if it floats ur boat, check out the release thread, HERE:

See the name of my target?

I fell through the ground in one of these random corners on the rebel cruiser:

I couldn't replicate that situation though, so it may be a very rare thing (or I just couldn't find that specific corner with no collision).

The DLT-20 issue makes sense, now. The rebel sniper rifle is listed on Wookieepedia as the E-17d. I'd changed the designation to E-17M to signify a "machine gun" as a placeholder designation, since the DLT-20 designation somehow slipped past my notice. As far as amazing models go, they don't have to be the best models ever made. I just like a little attention to detail. Well, so much for filesize reduction. :P *adds to log*

"Not supposed to be in game!" I think that's actually a note to self from the time I'd first put that and the destructible superstructure deck in, because I wasn't certain I'd use them. Whoops. ^_^ That's the unused stock ventral bulb, which I'd added in for aesthetic purposes. (It's alternately the main tractor beam or armor plating for the main reactor, depending on which reference you go by.) I might do something more for it later, but for now it's just another fun thing to to stare at, or bomb the heck out of.

I'll search for that collision problem, too. I've never run across it myself, but if it's there, I'll find it.

Edit:

Woah. This is pretty awsome..

A couple annoyances..
In the Rebel bridge, when i went into the far back-left corner of the hangar, I got stuck, and wasn't allowed to move anywhere..

The Y-wing cockpit has a hole in the bottom...

If you fall into the depressions on either side of the Imp. bridge, you can't jump out. Possibly put in some stairs?

But really, this map is amazingly amazing. :D :D Awsome job!

That's a common problem with first person view in starfighters.
