Skinning Question
Recently I've been experimenting with skins, but all of a sudden after I save the .tga file over the old, original, it doesn't show up in-game. I know REL compression is off, both (new and original) have the same pixel with/height, I've even tried a skin that I know to work. I can view the new skin on the SWBFII Msh Viewer, but again, when I Munge the side, I only get the original.

Re: Skinning Question
have you make a custom side or not? And have you got dc: in the lua?
Seriously dude you shouldn't edit the assets. Copy the side you want to edit to data_ABC/Sides and make your changes there... otherwise you won't be able to get the old skin back.
I suggest a clean. And give me your lua please.
EDIT2: Don't mind me - I thought you were editing the assets
But cleaning does help.

Re: Skinning Question
But I've made, a new map, and pasted the "rep" side folder for the assets (which I know to be clean) and it still happened. It's the side "rep". No custom sides.

Re: Skinning Question
I'm not sure you understood what I said; select your side in the munge menu, then press the Clean button. When that's done, do a Munge (still with your side selected).

Re: Skinning Question
Correct, I copied the side "rep" from the assets to my map's sides file. I then open Gimp and load my skin. I then click "save as" and tell it to replace the original skin in data_***\sides\rep. I then Munge side "rep". Start game. Select custom map. Map loads, no new skins, they are all originals.

Re: Skinning Question
Ok. What exactly does cleaning do? Does in past "clean" files over the old ones, etc?
*edit* I just finished cleaning, now Munging.

Re: Skinning Question
It cleans out all the files and allows you to remunge as if you were munging for the first time.IronJaw wrote:Ok. What exactly does cleaning do? Does in past "clean" files over the old ones, etc?

Re: Skinning Question
Wait - you aren't loading in your custom rep side. You need to put a dc: in front of SIDE\\rep.lvl.

Re: Skinning Question
exactly what I was going to say.
Where it says this:
And remember to get rid of those ","s that I told you to remove in the other topic, or else it might crash the map due to the error from the other topic.

Where it says this:
Change it to:ReadDataFile("SIDE\\rep.lvl",
ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\rep.lvl",
And remember to get rid of those ","s that I told you to remove in the other topic, or else it might crash the map due to the error from the other topic.

Re: Skinning Question
Hmmm, ok, add the "dc:"... Interesting, I never did it to my first maps with custom skins....

Re: Skinning Question
Strange. A new skin requires a new side, even if the models and weapons and such are the same. Without adding "dc:", it'll load the stock sides.IronJaw wrote:Hmmm, ok, add the "dc:"... Interesting, I never did it to my first maps with custom skins....

Re: Skinning Question
Seeing as no one else has said it I may as well - did you copy over the Common side folder from the assets?
