Anyone else unimpressed?
So I've played all three new systems now and I have to say I'm rather unimpressed. I'm trying to decide whether it's because they just came out so the games aren't really innovative or whether we're just playing the same old stuff with shiny new graphics.
XBox 360
The only game I've found that I really though I could get into was Perfect Dark Zero. The NFS games are just as good on XBox, PS2 or Gamecube, they just don't have shiny new graphics.
Playstation 3
Firs off -- no "dualshock" feature anymore? What the heck? That's been a staple in controllers since the Nintendo 64 came out with the rumble pack. Secondly, I played some World War II game. Oh my goodness. Can we stop with these, or at least add something new to them? There's like 100 World War/Vietnam/whatever old war games and they are all 100% the same. BARF. We had the PS3 on a project and were playing in High-Def, but I didn't see enough of a difference to make me even entertain the thought of shelling out 500 bucks plus money for controllers and games.
Wii
I've said it to many, many people - though probably not here: The Wii is either going to sink fast or it's going to swim on to be the new revolution in gaming. Here's the two biggest downfalls I see:
1-I have not seen any gameplay vids in a third person perspective where the controller directly translates to how the character acts. If I'm playing as a jedi, I want to be able to dynamically create new moves, otherwise I'd prefer to just have a Dualshock II in my hands.
2-Third party support. Think of how many times EA has released crappy Gamecube ports of their big games. Play Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 sometime on PS2, then on Gamecube. I have a bigtime fear that multi-platform releases are going to suffer bigtime on the Wii. Why? Because companies like EA will just want their games to work on the Wii. They won't fine-tune them to the Wii's controller and they'll suck. Mark my words.
That being said, I'll stick to the 'classics'. The Guitar Hero Series, the Halo Series, Def Jam: Fight for NY. Those kind of games are unique. They have a lot of love in them, and the devs didn't just do it for a paycheck. And to be brutally honest, as graphics get better, gaming goes downhill. I've been an avid gamer since the mid 80's, and as technology gets better, more and more emphasis is put on the technology, and less and less on gameplay. Until we see stuff like that on the new systems, I'll stick to consoles that aren't a waste of money.

I agree, i'm sticking with my computer, who wouldn't want to? You can customise it, upgrade it, do all sorts of things, there much better, i would only want something like a playstation or xbox, for some really good games that some idiot decided not to make for the PC (like Halo or ROTS).

I mean Halo 2 and 3, they finally decided to release Halo 2 for the computer, but you will probably need to buy Windows Vista.

nope I have to say... the Super Nintendo and N64 owns them all!!!The PC owns all.
well, PC is good but consoles have much better more fun and easier to use MP...
but PC have mods... and what would a SWBF 2 be without mods? probably stonedead...
Tean, I think you may have a point about the "gameplay down/technique up"-thing...
I've been a gamer since 94-95 something (born 91) and it's been nintendo all the way... + some Sonic when I came over to people who had that...
I'm not sure if I'm ready for a real change yet in my "console allegiance".
there's really a big difference between games now and then. I still have the SNES in my room and I love it....
anybody played the "Super Star Wars"-games? they are cool
most games now don't come up in the same fun-factor as old ones...
now I'm sure all of you think "let that geek talk to himself" if you even get trough half of my boring post...

TBH, the only one i really want is the wii, because of the splitscreen. I just find it really fun having a laugh with 3 other friends. Like on wario ware, on the quickthink minigames by the time i figure out what it says and what it means, i already lost. Lol, good times. Which is why i'm getting the wii, as it will be hilarious having to do something with the wiimote instead. I will probably end up getting a 360 in the not too far future aswell, when Halo 3 comes out. But i'm not even concidering a PS3. But even if/when i get those 2 consoles, i'll still use my pc more than them. There's just so much more you can do with them. eventually, the consoles are gonna turn out as a pc, just with a controller, which you can buy for the pc anyway. I personally don't see the point... even though i'm buying 2 anyway, lol.

Racing for the PC is good. I have Papyrus NASCAR Racing 2003 season on my PC (EA Nascar Thunder = [diet dr. pepper] ) with a Thrustmaster Racing wheel. It's alot of fun!!
What's good about the PC is that Companies will not stop making games for it. and you can upgrade your PC for better games if you need to.
Sure, you have to buy a new one after a while, but same with a console. But with consoles, they come out with new ones about every 5+ years. A PC can last alot longer and still play the old games.
For example, on my new PC (that I'm typing this on) I have Battlefront II, but I also have, for my younger sister, some games that came out for Windows 95!
Can you play a great game from 1995 on your brand new Wii, PS3, or 360? No.

PS3 and The Wii look good (I really want Zelda: Twilight pricess) but the games are just not that origional anymore. The N64 is still fun for me beacsuse 1. Games are cheep and there are plenty of them. I don't have to wait for a new one to be released. 2. Its simple and dosent have akward controls like in Halo where on estick controls movement and the other one controls which you turn. (I cnat multi task) As for PCs, they are a lot better. Old games like rogue squadron are still good, and that was for the Windows 95.

Here's my problem with all four system...and yes it's also the PC.
Wii- Inability for players to make videos or take photos of them playing the game. I sound like an Xbox fanboy in saying this but I think next time around when Nintendo has finally put enough effort into software, I think they should concentrate on media stuffs that Nintendo fans would love without question.
Also I have deep concern that the games may lack as challenge as compared to playing NES or N64 games. For example, why does Pryus from Twilight Princess get killed in only two combos of hack and slash? Give Link weaker health and bosses a little more fighting like fireballs or a firewall.
PC- Developers can only, and truely, support Shooters, Strageties, and RPGs. That's it. Most developers have little care for other genres mainly because of money. Also, the PC games are losing lots of innovation and therefore, most, even the so-called "popular" games like Half Life 2, are becoming redundant. That's how I see it. Also here's my second problem. Most PC online games tend to cause some misbehaviors towards gamers more since they/we are primary responsible in how we should influence the games young gamers should be playing.
PS3- Lack of support for some games, price, and unecessary equipment that gamers don't really need. Having a DVD and an external hardware component (like the Xbox) does NOT make you a gamer.
Xbox 360- Microsoft can only support PC games. That's it! They lack a vareity of game genres when compared to Sega, Nintendo, and Sony.
