BF2_modtools.exe Not Working (Solved)
I just downloaded the Mod tools, located in C:
However, whenever I try to run them, it comkes up with the 'binkw32.dll' error.
I copied and pasted the BF2_modtools to the Gamedata folder, but when I click on it, the message 'Please insert CD 1' appears.
I have the DVD version. How can I fix this?

Answer - Copy the BF2_modtools.exe from the main BF2_modtools folder and paste it in the same folder as your battlefront2.exe, usually:
\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData
then you can launch BF2_modtools.exe and play your map to get a BFront2.log located in that same folder.
If you have the DVD version check THIS LINK for a DVD version of BF2_modtools.exe

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
that Link doesn't solve the problem. I copied/pasted binkw32.dll, and used the download link provided, but something opens for a fraction of a second before closing. No error messages appear.

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
What? Why are you copying any .dll files? You just take the file included in the link and use it in place of the on shipped in the Modtools.Matt 20 1 wrote:I copied/pasted binkw32.dll

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
Because the same 'binkw32.dll' error appears, even when I use the Linked file.

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
Are your binkw32.dll and the DVD exe in the same folder as your battlefront2.exe? What operating system are you running? SWBF2, when played normally, works right?

Re: Not Working
Made huge for emphasis. Please read a bit closer next time. You don't copy the bink dll, you copy BF2_modtools.exe and paste it where your game is installed.AQT wrote:The FAQ / Everything You Need Thread Version 2.0 wrote:Question - I have the CD version of SWBF2 and I get a binkw32.dll error when trying to launch the BF2_modtools.exe, what's wrong?

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
I have Windows XP. BF2 works fine on it's own.
I copied the BF2_modtools.exe from the main BF2_modtools folder and pasted it in the same folder as battlefront2.exe, and used the file provided in the link, however, it just ran Battlefront II.

BF2_modtools.exe is just a debug copy of BF2. When you run it, it should run just like BF2 except windowed with a green bar on the top half.

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
dude, if you have the DVD version, use the link that was posted above and then copy and paste the downloaded bf2_modtools_DVD or whatever it was that you downloaded into GameData, then run it, and a small screen should come up with a green bar on the top to stop people using it as a exe to play swbf2 with.
Just play your mod map in this exe and when you finish check your bf2 log which should be in gamedata too which will print out your errors to the notepad.

Geez dude read my whole post...that's not my problem, I don't want to play a Mod map, I want to run the Mod Tools, which won't work.
...I did not say about you wanting to play a mod map, I was clearly saying that this is the way to put in your bf2_mod_tools and then checking your errors which you SAID you wanted to do... heredude, if you have the DVD version, use the link that was posted above and then copy and paste the downloaded bf2_modtools_DVD or whatever it was that you downloaded into GameData, then run it, and a small screen should come up with a green bar on the top to stop people using it as a exe to play swbf2 with.

Re: BF2_modtools.exe Not Working
Ah. You think that BF2_modtools.exe is the actual mod tools in their entirety, don't you? When I installed the tools, I thought the exact same thing... Go to C:\BF2_Modtools\documentation and then read some of the docs, especially teh Getting Started and the ZeroEditor_Guide. Those tell you how to use the tools. Although they're pretty vague, you should be able to get the gist of it. BF2_modtools.exe is used for testing maps and generating an error log, so you do need that.

Getting started is the hardest part. (Thats why you read the Getting Started Guide).
