Dual-phase lightsaber? Not that hard to do; just give the jedi 2 lightsabers, a long and a short one, but I don't think it's been done yet.

A railgun might be sort of unconventional, and it can definately be done, because (I'm pretty sure) the award sniper rifle does this.

BFG. That would be pretty cool.

A health dispenser would have its uses, it would drop health but no ammo.

Dual phase = one line odf change

railgun = (ingame what really is the meaning of a magnetic rail gun? its just a high velocity bullet right? like the chaingun and award pistol, and the award sniper is a laser beam)

BFG = ???

Health Dispenser = one line odf change

Just because it's a 1 line ODF change doesn't make it conventional. I stated that those 2 would be easy.

A railgun is usually considered to be a weapon that has a projectile not stopped by obstacles (most weapons hit a target and go away, a railgun would be like the award sniper rifle, where it goes through each target to go on and hit any that might be behind the first)

As for the BFG, have you never played DOOM? Please, play it. You can't play any first person shooter without ever having played DOOM and call yourself civilized.

It might help if you told us what a 'BFG' is, but I'll google it anyways. :google:

1. Those are very conventional, and they have been done.

2. I am civilized. Ha, proved you wrong. And the B*G is "conventional" as well, just more damage.

the BFG sounds like a rocket launcher with the projectile being a nade having a green effect on it, this is probably the most conventional weapon in this entire tread.

How are you defining unconventional?

I am trying to think of weapons that I don't think have been done before, and seem at least a little creative.

Intuitiveness is not determined by number of lines of code changed; but by how original, unique, creative, enjoyable, and appealing it is.

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex. It takes a touch of genius and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction." - Albert Einstein

I do not think that word means what you think it means. "Intuitive" means "clear and easy to figure out;" it is not a synonym for ingenuity.

And regardless of what any given person thinks the topic should be about, if you look at the first post it is defined as weapons that go outside the "usual shoot-and-kill." A really big gun or a really obnoxious effect doesn't make a weapon unique or original, it just makes it different. "Enjoyability" and "appeal" are not inherently related to creativity, either.

The Einstein quote is out of place, because the whole point of this is not to refine a concept or streamline a design. The point of this thread is to post ideas for weapons that, functionally, are different from the norm. Form follows function in these designs and many are approaching "convention" (or the opposite) from a "form" viewpoint alone.

Orbital Apocalypse: Once activated, tons of capital ships jump up, blasting torrents of lasers EVERYWHERE on the surface of the map. Kinda like the destruction of Taris.

Word.
Last word. It is mine.
All your last words are belong to us.
"Any last words, Solo?"

Anyway...

A gun that has a random ordinance - you shoot and it fires a shotgun round, then the next shot is a sniper-type round, then you get a burst of flamethrower, etc. You never know what's going to happen.

A rifle that only does a little damage, but knocks the enemy back like a force push or something

A grenade launcher type thing, that instead of launching a grenade, it shoots something along the lines of a proton torpedo.

A thermal detonator type weapon that you throw, but acts like a mine in that it only explodes when an enemy steps too close.

A deployable turret that shoots electricity (like the arc caster of force lightning) that chains to other units over extraordinary distances, but only does a bit of damage before its destroyed.

Actually, I claim that last one. Mine.

Ambush beacons- Mines that, when triggered, force spawn a few enemies that quickly kill whoever triggered the mine, and then dissappear. If you had pirates in your map, it'd be freakin' sweet if the ambush guys were ninjas. Just throwing that out there.
Fake Grenade- This would be fun to screw around with. Throw the grenade and watch the AI scatter away. Of course, the grenade wouldn't go off. It would look exactly the same as a normal grenade, but its ord would either be nonexistant, or if that resulted in a crash, then its ord would do no damage, have no effect, and have no push.
Ghost Runner- You turn invisible and drop a unit that looks identical to you, but doesn't move. The AI will fire on it, considering it an enemy. And while they're occupied, you kill them.

Fake Nades - actually in normal bf that's a little pointless, but in a singleplayer/rpg mode (especially one with very limited nades) that'd be pretty useful.....thanks

Yeah, I'd thought about the pointlessness of that one. It would be a little pointless on a map like, say, Mos Eisley, but on something like Kamino, it'd be pure gold. If your map is a walkway-like map and they may roll off the side, you may want to make it do an unnoticeable amount of damage so it gives you the kill, I guess.

The first can't be done.
The second has been done. Lots. Its very easy.
Grenade launcher. Not unconventional at all. And very simple to do.
Thermal det. Can't be done well, but you can throw mines if you adjust a few values anyway.
Last one - again, pretty simple to do.

Again...they're not really unconventional. And you can't "claim" a weapon as your own just because you had a simple idea.

1, give up, wont happen
2, a concussion rifle? wasnt that what the twilek warrior use in the convo pack?
3, thats a rocket launcher with a gravity value and slow velocity, aka a nade launcher with a new projectile msh
4, a mine with a nade msh and higher velocity, also the nade anim

If it has already been done (by the stock game, yet) why mention it?
EDIT - woah, wait, whole 'nuther block of posts to look over. Nvm, I see this has already been addressed.
EDIT 2 - Right, looked over them. I really like the Fake Nade. And the best part is, if you made it graphically identical to a thermal det - red glow and all, easy to do - it'd work like gold on MP, too. Imagine Jabba's Palace with that....

That just made my day.

would something such as an ambush mine be possible? I.E. you place the mine, enemy steps on it, and ambush is triggered?

probably, but you would have to use a predetermined spawn path, so it would be dumb, unless you placed other mines to get locations from for where so spawn the ambush, but that is a big stretch.
