The Easiest Tutorial For People Like Me
Getting Started with your firt map. Ever.
Okay. I had to learn this by staring at a screen for months without GT, soooooooo . . .
Go into C:/Battlefront2ModTools/data
Clicky on the mod tools visual munge icon.
On the pop-up screen, give your map modes, a three letter name, a full name, and a short description of what you want it to be.
Click "munge."
Go into C:/Battlefront2ModTools/assets/worlds/(what ever world) and copy the odf, msh and effects folder.
Go into C:/Battlefront2ModTools/data_(you three letter name world)/worlds/(your three letter name) and paste the copied stuff there.
Go into C:/Battlefront2ModTools/data_(you three letter name world) and click the Zero Edit button.
Press "Load" and go to C:/Battlefront2ModTools/data_(you three letter name world)/worlds/world1/(your three letter map name).wld
Move around using wasd and the arrow keys.
Select raise when in height and left/right click.
Select place when in objects and press browse (go into C:/Battlefront2ModTools/data_(you three letter name world)/worlds/odf and select).
For textures go into the msh folder and select tgas to make funny ground textures . . .

I think they should also copy the world1 folder, because of the skys and ground textures.

Follow it step-by-step and if you still don't understand I wouldn't be sure if modding is your niche.

Or you can take the much easier / better documented way and read Getting_started.doc that comes with the tools which covers all of this and more.

It was too complicated until I got the hang of it.

Complicated? It explained things better and had instructional pictures.

Re: The Easiest Tutorial For People Like Me
The pics did me no good. For about a month I opened up ZE and all I could do was change colors. Then my lucky break came through and I discovered .wld files! Then I got grips with ZE and understood their tutorial.

I have to agree for once. (funny of me to say this) but the getting started document did a great job explaining how to get the map started. The doc lost me at vehicle spawns though.Teancum wrote:Or you can take the much easier / better documented way and read Getting_started.doc that comes with the tools which covers all of this and more.

Re: The Easiest Tutorial For People Like Me
Meh, ZeroEdit wasd confusing for me as well. Getting Started helped with everything else perfectly. Heck, it was a loooong time before I figured out just how to import an object, much less roate it, delete it etc.
To this day, I'm still not that good a modder, world-wise. I'm better with Sides work.

Yea, same here. Also, in ze it took me forever to figure out the pressing "f" thing so you could actually see what you were doing.

Re: The Easiest Tutorial For People Like Me
well if you have a brand new map, then there is nothing in it. When you load it up into ze, you are looking straight across the map and it looks like there is nothing there, and when you press f, it like zooms out a bit and you can see everything. (do you not have ze, or is my ze just weird?)
