Anyone else unimpressed?

Want to know about a game? Should we buy that new upcoming release? Post your thoughts on new games and ones you have...so others can know whether to buy it or not! All non-SWBF, non-modding topics should go here.

this isn't really directed at anyone in particular. It is a rant directed at PC fanboys across the world-wide-web.)

All I have to say is: Waaaaaah.

To be honest, I've had it to here with "ZOMG PC PWNS ALL" discussion (not just gametoast, but as a whole.)

Guess what. Consoles are popular. PCs are too. They are in totally different leagues and people buy them for totally different reasons. Both have some amazing games and features that will simply not compare to the other, and people of all ages and sexes tinker with both. People on Xbox live are not all sniveling children, the PC is not a "thinking man's" gaming device, and for fairness' sake, the consoles are not "teh l33t shizzle." Holy crap, maybe the reason the new consoles are failing to impress is the fact that they're brand new! But you can't play Gears of War or Twighlight Princess and then come away saying "it's not THAT great." The PC is not a dedicated machine. This means that games are not their strong suit. While there are some fantastic games on the PC, such as Oblivion, Half-Life, etc, the vast majority of computers are used for work and communication, not pwning noobs. The consoles, on the other hand, do nothing other than play games and they are sold for that very specific reason. Modding is a completely moot point, because some people like the fact that a game they're playing is a game and not a platform for user-created content. I'm not dissing the mod community, I'm just pointing out that the lack of an ability to edit content is not a drawback on a piece of hardware. The video game console community is vast and full of gamers who bought their consoles specifically for gaming. The PC gaming community is a smaller group that are dedicated to one specific function of a piece of electronic hardware that was not designed specifically for playing games.

All I have to say is, if you don't like consoles, deal with it. You have a PC to play with. Be happy with that and don't put the consoles down to reaffirm your confidence in your choice. Neither gaming community is going anywhere anytime soon, so it's completely pointless and childish.

I think consoles are a little "family oriented." But like TheTao said, the're both in different leagues aimed at different people and generes.

PrinceXizor I'm having a hard time knowing if you took Tao's idea seriously or not.

I had a chance to attend a Wii party this weekend. It mostly consisted of drinking, Wii Sports, and making Wii jokes (like, "No way! That was in...I wanna see the instant Wiiplay" and "I think you broke the Wiimote. It's in need of Wiipair").

My opinion is that the party atmosphere is the Wii's place. Simple graphics and intuitive controls make it easy for everyone to play, even drunk people coming in after the bars close. Although, some of the games take some getting used to, like boxing. There was one girl that just seemed to be wiggling around and put the smackdown on everyone who tried to play her. Although it was fun to watch her wiggle :) , the gameplay didn't seem to require much strategy. The game of the night was Tennis. Get 4 players in front of the tv playing doubles and THAT is fun.

We also played Super monkey ball. The time spent on that game was mostly laughing at each other because the controls sucked so much. I think it was a poor idea to require calibration before each minigame.

So my first impression is that the Wii is a party machine. It seemed to me that if you were to play alone it would get somewhat monotonous..at least with the games I played. I can envision all kinds of strange things appering for this console as well, like excercise games, dance routine games, and musical instrument simulation (guitars, drums) along with all kinds of Wii controller 'shells'.
