First, the bad news:
Did you see what psych0fred posted at his board? Pandemic have not made tools even for themselves to build the maps.
They do... not... exist.
So... if you REALLY want BF2 modding tools, stop talking, take action, and put your money where your mouth is. Set up a Paypal site and start sending money to hire the programmers to write the tools for you.
If you don't want to put up money, stick with modding BF1 and become really, really good at it. Learn modding inside out. You will most likely be able to re-purpose BF2 assets like new models and put them into BF1 in some form.
Okay, now cheer up because there's good news:
Hang on to your mod files and any notes you have made, Battlefront 1 will be a retro classic in 5 years time, and between games of uber-Battlefront 5 and the game of the new TV series we'll all dig out those crazy mods and laugh about the primitive graphics and how we struggled to get a goddamn spawn point to work
I still love the original vector-graphic Star Wars arcade game, and I guess I always will; I think BF will be the same

no, because there are major problems with it, which is why I've only shown videos of them, they are not in any state to put into maps.can we have the animating msh now?
that "might" is now definite, I just made my first HL2 Deathmatch map and it was easy and hassle-free. But I don't know what site you're talking abouti read that u might go mod for halflife 2

saturn would it be possible for you to tell us how you got that 1st elevator test object working in game?
also ...after seein Jabbas palace and yavin videos wouldnt trhey have needed the bf1 tools to some degree to update them to bf2 .... maybe there is some compatability with bf2 and zeroedit .......most likely what saturn said before about using bf2 stuff in bf1. which is kinda good ,but, still not the same.

This is not Softimage's problem or fault. I spoke to someone who works at Softimage and the situation is that they cannot release an XSIModTool plugin unless they are asked to. So there'll be no exporter until Pandemic asks for it. But it may not be Pandemic's call either, ultimately responsibility is with the suits at LucasArts.this may prompt softimage to finally release an exporter for mod tools

Pffft....not moddable, my Diet Dr. Pepper. If the data is there and can be read by the game, likelyhood is that it wont be too much harder than BF1 was. And now that we have the experience looking through the files and all (ah...good old hex editing....) It my just go that much faster. Remember, by the time LA released the mod tools, the community had already made mod tools for the game, just not quite as comprehensive.

Fred,
as the topic starter i have to say that it wasn´t my attention to offend or flame you (or Pandemic) nor did i call for a boycott
I only talked to some guys earlier what they want to do if SWBF2 isn´t modable ( in the way SWBF1 is) so i was interested in the plans of others.
As for me i can say that i don´t want a drag and drop Modtool for creating maps in a few minutes. This ends mostly in crappy made maps.
I for myself don´t have problems with more difficult ways to create new maps. Heck the game i modded before was way harder to mod than SWBF since Modtools.
But from the sounds of your postings it reads very unlikely about tools for SWBF2. Maybe you can explain a bit more how Pandemic is currently creating maps (without tool?) . You don´t need to go that deep into detail. But maybe it will makes things clearer what we may have to expect or not in the future.

yep we're definately getting way ahead of things here. I want to see what the game is like before I want to start thinking of ways to change it or add to it. That being said there is great pleasure and sense of achievement in seeing your created map actually in the game, now to return to the original thread, if SWBF2 is not modable then I'll do (and what I'd planned to do if it's not modable) what Saturn suggested andFor the record no one ever said there won't be mod tools for SWBF2. Instead of starting an uniformed frenzy and talk of boycotts and petitions why don't you instead wait three months for the game to come out and then see what happens.
Pandemic weren't obliged to release mod tools at all and the fact they did is really great, we need to just calm down and see what happens. And of course there's always Empire at War to come too. Is 3 months too long to wait? If the speculation is like this now, imagine what it'll be like as the date draws nearer. Roll on November!stick with modding BF1 and become really, really good at it.

Hate to return to this... ok now I don't want to mention the possible future existence (or not) of SWBF2 mod tools, Ok that being said I think it's been mentioned that msh's from SWBF2 could or would work in SWBF1, now bearing this in mind, would there be an equivalent version of the "assets" folder available or somewhere/way of getting MSH's etc... or is there a lvl extractor. All of this is very early I know and I don't want to start the whole mod tools argument off again, however I'm limited by not being able to make new MSH as I (like most people) can't buy XSI foundation but some new objects etc.. possibly from the new game might be nice to add as objects to SWBF1 maps.
