Update - now making quick map 2 - Sraiden: Ash Forest. Will take less time than this one, hopefully (alot of stuff in this one I was doing for first time) and the sides will be modified less for the map (they're my GCW Side Mod ones with localization and new skins, essentially).
This second map is pretty much the opposite of the first one, both in custom era and environment - custom era will be GCW, environment will be a rocky landscape, with smoke and ash falling, rock towers with smoke pouring out the tops, and a forest of grey-white, vine like plants in patches. Small red, anemone like-plants also as foliage. River of ash and fire across one part of the map. Oh and falling 'meteors' (dunno what you call rocks blasted out by volcanoes).
The reason this is in the same thread as a map completely different from it is that (1) they make a nice 'Fire and Ice' mini mappack, and (2) the sides will (eventually) be crossed over between them. So Kadrala will have the custom GCW sides too (but with snow skins) and Sraiden will have the custom CW sides (with shocktrooper skins for the clones).
Sraiden is built in terms of object placement and terrain, but requires some pretty drastic reskinning and environment effects like falling ash and a better sky. The sides are done (not gonna be changed from GCW SM ones except a few weapons have been swapped around and effects added, and each side has a new hero) but need localization. Hopefully will get some screens up within next six hours, in ZE if not from in game.
Oh and a few features/minor points of interest:
Rebels have awesome Commander. Same species as Maul but a gunner type, not jedi type.
No custom fish (c'mon, its a river of ash) but custom 'birds.' Note the inverted commas around birds.
Meteor explosions kill people.
Inspiration came mainly from deep sea hydrthermal vents. Look them up on google if interested.
I suggest for the Clone Wars era maybe the 42nd (or whatever that legion was on Kashyyyk in Ep.3) with Commander Gree or Galactic Marines w/ Commander Bacara. That will depend on the screenshots we will be getting soon.
What type of starfighters are going to be in this one??

And no starfighters for this one. AAC-1 Fightertank or Groundspeeder (in convopack assets, dunno if it'll work, might use it) for rebels, AT-ST for imp.
Really nice. Im smelling a new era of really original maps, something like the Yankfan a_speck_of_dust era here at Gametoast.
I would suggest however to tone down the ash just a tiny bit, and instead use the lighting to make everything seem darker, because the light wont cause lag, but will have the same effect. Also, as Teancum said, more objects is a must, the gameplay must be a bit sour with such an open map. However, Kudos for making terrain variation! That looks great!

@Nova Hawk: disagree with you on the tanks (plus its useful. With a bit of object placement you can turn it into a sam site).
Anyway, do need a few things for this map:
1) Rebel skins. None of mine work (all have transparent stuff over them that when removed leaves most of the skin missing. No way around). So if anyone has some clear rebel skins (urban trooper, a vanguard, a sniper, my engineer bothan and wookie are fine) could they please post them in this topic or PM me with them.
2) some questions answered, posted topic in Modding section.
I cant really compare the 2 without playing sraiden, just talking from personal experience.
An idea would be adding those SPT's (Sulfur plume towers) around the map. Overdoing them wouldn't be such a bad thing in my opinion, maybe 3 in a group now and then, and some just around the map. Maybe add some craters with that smoke coming out that you could hide in and snipe, in the very middle however, there would be a tiny damage region, so if you stood in the very middle, you would slowly lose health. Finally, rocks would look nice here, like the swbf1 geonosis barrier rocks everynow and then, just reskinned to fit the environment.
It is a little empty, though. Add some rocks for cover, and maybe a tower (as seen in Pic #2) you can enter, possibly? I mean kind of like how you see the Geo vents in Ep2, you can enter, but the gas won't touch you.
Besides rocks for cover, there's not much you can do... unless... unless you add a tunnel system. That would vary the battle, somewhat. Or just add a Geo cavern. It is your map, though.
I'm really loving this so far. Make sure you make the terrain more varied so you have 'landmark areas' like you do on most swbf2 maps so it doesn't look the same wherever you go.
