Goblins

Post by Tourny »

Um I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this but, I want to make a Goblin like the ones from Lord of the Rings Battle For Middle Earth II. (the little crouched dudes with long noses) I was going to hunt down the sith lord from the convo pack but it looks to me like that's a no-go. Anybody got any ideas about which MSH I ought to use? I'd use maul but he'sgot those funny spikeson his head...

P.S. I could make a goblin easily if I knew how to make a dude attack AND crouch at the same time!

EDIT: Here here! These dudes!

A gungan wouldn't look right as an Orc. There's no stock model that will ever be perfect, plus altered stance or movement is something you'd have to make new animations for. You can try to reskin a stock model, like the unused stock Sith Lord (at least, I think one exists), but I don't think it'd turn out very well if you want them to look not quite human, and you'd still have the animation issues.

A Gungan wouldn't work. Goblins don't have ears like that. And, I'm very particular about Orcs vs. Goblins, So I guess this breed of Orc is the Moria Goblin. I'll try the sith lord model, but I did look at all of the textures in the jed side (that's where I found him) and he looked a little bit to... upright...

What would happen if I took the Idea of the wampa base pose? When I was making Indiana Jones I tried Sidious' animations, and no matter what I did he still floated.

Wampa Base Pose + Lightsaber anims = ?

Would he stand up to take a swing? If I can't reach perfection with stock animations I'd be willing to mod some if someone could give me an idea of what to do.

EDIT: I downloaded a tut on combo files, it says:
Hidden/Spoiler:
//Posture("<posture>"[, "<posture>"][, ...]);
// Sets the soldier postures allowed in this state; defaults to "All"
// The soldier will be forced into one of the postures, if
// possible, and will abort to IDLE state if not.
// <posture> string param; values:
// "All", "Any" - All postures
// "Stand" - soldier is standing
// "Crouch" - soldier is crouching
// "Prone" - soldier is prone
]// "Sprint" - soldier is sprinting
// "Jump" - soldier is jumping
// "RollRight" - soldier is rolling to the right
// "RollLeft" - soldier is rolling to the left
// "Jet" - soldier is jet jumping
// "Roll" - synonym for "RollLeft","RollRight"
// "!<posture>" - except a posture
Posture("Stand"); // must be standing
So, since the goblins would use a combo file (melee weapons, you know), and it has a crouching pose, I could then say:

Posture("Crouch");

And he would need to be in a crouching position to be in that particular state, Correct?

Use the msh conversion tool to convert a 3D studio max copy of the goblin model from the game, into .msh. Then give it suitable basepose/animations and pray it works.

Geek is correct. The installer for the mod tools states:

You will NOT steal from other games without permission!

Or something like that.

EDIT: Just trying to regulate topic, but my previous question wasn't rhetorical. I do want it answered... (no offense or rudeness intended)

EDITEDIT: Can anyone think of a JEdi who doesn't have the big sleeves near the wrists like ObiWan? Aayla would be good except for her feminine features... Maybe one of the rebels would work...?

It isn't illegal, considering A), EA gave up supporting future patches for BFME2 as they do with all projects.
B), there are TONS of community made models. I know of a moddeller who made his own goblin models. You could borrow from him

Yoda would actually be PERFECT! The only downside is his sleeves... Do youthink if I reskinned them that anyone would realize they're there?

EDIT: Could I have a link to the stretch topic? Unless it's the "GeometryScale:" Thing.

Yoda will get too stretched and look retarded. Been there before. Truthfully you need a new model. What's out there won't work without looking really cheap.

The only problem is, I have tried to import one of his models using the msh converter and it did not work. I'll see about getting a goblin model to work.

You have my utmost gratitude! :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown: :bowdown:

EDIT: Should I count on it getting done in the next year, or should I start on my own? Is it worth the wait, do you think?
