Is it possible to hex in a custom hero?
I just downloaded the new BF1 conversion pack and really love a lot of the new heroes. I don't have any modding experience except that I figured out how to change the heroes on a few mods via hex edit. I want to know if it is possible to use the custom characters from the conversion mod in other maps by hexing them in, or if there is another way to do it that doesn't require much technical modding knowledge.
Thanks for any help,
Sabo

Welcome to Gametoast Sabo. Unfortunately I have minimal modding experience and can't even make a map without it crashing. But someone here has got to know.

That's for the welcome, general. Hopfully I find out so I can start using Darth Malak in other maps.

There's no way at the moment, but when I'm done with the next release (due out sometime late July/early August) you should be able to. Just know that if you do hex editing to make a backup.

Thanks for the info, I just downloaded the mod tools and I'm going to try and figure this all out.

Actually, this is possible. Iv'e done it before. The only problem is that the charactor's name shows up as 078298476 or whatever. It's very easy, but kind of hard to explain on a forum. I'll do my best.
Copy the side you want to add and paste it into the
C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\DATA\_LVL_PC\SIDE folder.
Now, go back to the C:\ProgramFiles\LucasArts\StarWarsBattlefrontII\GameData\DATA\
_LVL_PC
folder and open up the MISION file with a hex editor. Now scroll down to where you find a map that you want to replace and put in the hex value of the charactor you want.
If you want a certain person's hex value (even if it's a custom one) please ask.

Wow, thanks. I'm a little confused though. So now that I have the kor.lvl (which I assume is the KOTOR character(s)) file, and I paste it into C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\DATA\_LVL_PC\SIDE, the game will automatically know what I'm talking about when I hex a new character into say...mygeeto? I'm asking because I notice when hex editing that before the list of characters are named, a SIDE/*.lvl call is made. So will this just work that simply, or will I have to hex in a SIDE/kor.lvl call - which would be impossible due to hex contraints?

Yes. Is there another way? Really what I would like to do is replace boba/jango fett in his levels with some of the new characters from the BF1 conversion pack - Sion, Nihilus, etc.
And rather than starting a new thread, maybe you could help me with this as well: is there a way to edit maps I download online? It's essentially for the same purpose, I'd like to replace the villians in some of the maps I download with the KOTOR characters, and even Corran horn, etc. I downloaded the mod tools, is there a way to open up a downloaded file with them?
Thanks for helping me out, I really appreciate it.

You can't JUST replace Boba/Jango in the maps if you are hex editing. Hex editing is very hard to understand. Most people have to fiqure it out on their own.
There is no way you can edit maps you have downloaded of the internet, unless you just want to change a hero or something by hex editing. You can't edit maps that you download with the mod tools.

Oh, I know enough hex to switch boba to the emperor, what I want to do is use the new characters in older maps.
EDIT: Maybe I'm not being clear enough.
Let's just try this.
Is it possible to make the CIS hero in The Ancient Research Facillity or Mygeeto Darth Sion via hex or any other way, if so, how do I do it?
EDIT #2 Perhaps the question was already answered above in post #6, although I'm not clear.
If that is the way to do it, could you tell me the custom names for the new jedis in the BF1 conversion pack?

Yes, I know, but you can't change the number of letters in an already munged file. So, therefore, you cannot replace some charactors with other charactors without changing other charactors along the way.
If you want to tell me who you plan on replacing, who you are putting in their place, what map and what mode I will tell you if it's possible to replace without changing other charactors (kind of a mouthful to say).
