Halo: Blood Gulch [New Poll]

Post by SpartanA259 »

Hello Ive come to post my WIP of a map based off the multiplayer map from Halo Combat Evolved, Blood Gulch. There are two modes right now and I hope I can figure out how to put in a survival mode with zombies. The conquest mode is pretty simple each team has two command posts on either side of the canyon and there is a neutral cp in the middle of the map. The team would be the UNSC vs The Covenant. The CTF mode will be well Capture the Flag... The teams will be Red vs Blue like in Halo Combat Evolved. Survival will be the player up against zombie Elites and marines. Pretty simple that one is.
Sides: 20%
Map: 50%
Custom Sounds:0%
Things to do:More Objects
More Halo type weapons

I thought this was just a halo topic in the media forum. anyways,
This map looks great but it REALLY needs props scattered around. I love the look and style of the halo outdoor maps and hope you can replicate that. Good luck.
btw, good job for a first map.

Awesome job at re-creating the original Blood Gulch from Halo CE! I do agree that the terrain looks really bare but then so was the map. The only thing that made it different was that they dispersed rocks throughout the terrain and maybe a few trees here and there.

Anyway, looks good so far! Keep up the great work!

The only ways I can think of to improve it are to add rocks as Nova Hawk said, and possibly add larger hills for more cover (from the last screenshot it seems to be relatively flat compared to the original Blood Gulch.

But, those are just suggestions, the map looks great, I especially like the work you have done on the terrain.

Looks good but you should decrease the tile range for the terrain's texture.

Off topic: Omg, I completely loath those graphics when compared to the latest version in Reach. Sure its classic but the newer one is a thousand times better with its new location. Sure I rarely get to play on it now that Bungie screwed up BTB for me but nevertheless still an awesome new map. That's like the main reason I got Reach.

Thanks for the comments and improvement ideas. I will be putting more cover on the ground. Im redoing the canyon walls so they fit a little better with my temporary tunnels (im going to try to make my own so they look like the ones in Blood Gulch). There will be a shrub here or there and a couple dead trees. What do you guys think about the sky dome and the lighting? Any more comments, questions, or concerns. Im open for ideas to make the gameplay a little more fun.

The lighting (and terrain) looks too red like Geonosis, which is most likely where you pulled the ground textures from.

As for fun gameplay, you could possibly have weapon pickups like in Bakura: Rogue Assault, although it would likely be pretty buggy and not worth it.

If I remember it right you could not have weapon pick up online, or am I wrong?

Yeah the lighting is a little red I think ill change it. Who thinks I should start a beta list now to be more prepared for when the beta is ready? I also might change the Halo: CE AR to the Halo: Reach AR who thinks I should?
Here are two of the units on my map.

The best you could do to "be more prepared for the beta" is work on the map. Beta tester lists take all of forty minutes to get together, they're usually not a big issue.

I am afraid I have to agree with CalvaryCptMike on this one; the texture should look more light brown-ish/tan-ish.

Alright so the texture stays as it was before. I just wanted to know what you guys thought about it. Update coming soon.
EDIT: Terrain Update. Ok so I updated the terrain. I took out all the objects but the cps and bases. I tore down the canyon and redid it. I played Blood Gulch about 12 times makin sure everything was right. The one hill left of red base is a little big I might decrease the height. Now for the screen shot hope you guys like how the ground looks. One question does anyone know if a Spartan Model has been released and if not would anyone mind to make one for the map thanks. :)

I can't do a spartan model but I could make some rocks or other (simple) props.
I think that the terrain in the green pic. looks a bit sharp, blood gulch's hills seamed to be very smooth.

Looks pretty good, although the canyon walls need to be about double the height. Also, the map is too big, could you provide a bird's eye shot please?

EDIT:

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Culvar had a Spartan model for his version of Blood Gulch which was stopped.
