Hi,
just tryed to play BFII on a Windows 8 PC. Microsoft said everything running on Windows 7 is working on Windows 8. So the game crashes after the launcher. To fix this you should try the Compatibility mode. Use Windows 7 or Windows XP Service Pack 3 and the game runs again.
For modding:
The Compatibility Files button is removed. You now need to browse to the location manually.
C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData
If there are other things not working you can discuss here.
==EDIT==
Zero will only work in Admin mode.

Zero also works with 3D analyze. SWBF2 works fine after enabling stereo mix.

Where do you enable the stereo mix? in the game or system setting?

Dunno how different it is in Windows 8, but right click volume button in Windows, Recording Devices, right-click in any white space, check "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices", look for "Stereo Mix" or "What U Hear", right-click it and click "Enable" and "Set as default device".

Re: Star Wars Battlefront II and Windows 8 [update]
Windows 8's layout failed to impress me, I'll upgrade eventually. Star Wars games have never really held up well on newer versions of Windows. Took me a while to work out how to get Kotor 2 (retail) to run on Windows 7.
