How to create a Command Post?

Post by MasterNoth »

Ok. I'm starting out here, so please give me a little slack. I have tried looking in documentation and everything and also here, the SWB LA forums and on psych0fred's site. To no avail.

I am trying to create a Command Post. Without the need for pictures or anything, could someone walk me through it?

So far I have added the CP as an object, placed it on the ground, given it a name of CP3, label of CP3Label and everything looks like it is working right for that.

My real issue is with Regions. How do I make them "attach" to the CP? I put a Box on the screen, but it looks like this:

The thing is like 20 (in game) feet off of the ground! So, how do I attach the Regions to the Objects?

Better yet, maybe some kind soul (Saturn? eddie?) would be willing to explain it to me from scratch. Thanks for your help and understanding.

Look at the documentation for Zeroedit again, there is a big list of commands for moving objects. Read through the tutorial for Mod1, look at it's .wld file in a text editor. When you select a command post, there is a window on the right hand side which has it's properties. Look at that for CP1 and CP2 and use that as a template for creating your own Cp's.

i had that problem too when i first started. the regions were just hanging in midair. so i went throught all the readmes and stuff and looked at how the mod1 & mod2 maps were done. so the thing you need to know [and this applies too pretty much all objects as well as the regions] when you've selected a region or object, hold down the Z, X, or C key, then you can rotate or move the region by then holding down one of the keys on your mouse (either the left or right or middle button) and using your mouse to rotate or move as desired. so, play around with it and you'll get the hang of it. :D
hope this helped

Thanks for the responses, I was beginning to worry. hehehe

I got the princliples and details behind it now. My issue actually fell in not being able to physically move the box or sphere to ground and subground level. Since I don't have a three button mouse, it made this very difficult. Everytime I would press and hold both buttons, it would simply "free move" the thing I had selected.

Well, the issue is resolved. I installed the drivers and control panel for the trackball (4 button) and now everything works! I made button 3 work as my middle button and I have no issues. I can finally move everything along the Z plain. Thanks for the help!

How does the process of Ammo Bots and Powerup Bots work? I know I can place them, but how do I attach them to regions? Or is this in documentation as well?

Well, I looked in all of my BFBuilder documentation files and I found nothing on "Ammo" or "Powerup" "Bot" ("Bots") (I used the Find feature for those keywords.) And I can get them to register as an object in ZE, but they don't show as a "little guy" when I try to place them.

The bots don't need regions setting; IIRC people had errors when they tried to assign regions to power-up droids. Just place them on the map, munge and test for correct behaviour.

Most excellent! Thanks Saturn, you've been a great help... so far! (Hint: I might be picking your brain at a later date... hehehe)
