Assets

If you change something in the assets, are they changed for every modded map by default?

Like if you change something in the "rep_inf_ep2_rocketeer_chaingun" odf on the assets, will that be the same for every map you play?

If you change it in the asset folder, every map you make from that point with that side will be different
I (and the documentation) recommend not doing that and just having your own side and copy it to new maps you want it for

Well, if I JUST wanted to change the "pointstounlock" on the Droideka, would that drastically alter the entire CIS side, or just make the droideka instantly playable?

Do NOT, I repeat NOT edit ANYTHING in the ModTool's assets folder, if you want to mkae changes, copy and paste it to the appropriate location in your map folder. If you want to make a side mod, edit the side of your choice, go to you Mod Map's addon folder and copy the sides to your:

C:\Program Files\LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront 2 \data\lvl_pc\side folder, and it will change the side for every map with the default game sides.

But doing any side changes will break online compatibility, so if you play SWBF2 online you won't be able to connect to a server with your modded sides.

If you're going to play with sides, munge your map first, then mess with the sides within your Data_ABC. But make sure you COPY the respective sides to your Data_ABC first. Never mess with your assets or it will change every map you munge thereafter.

Good advice - however, it's worth mentioning that only messing with things in BF2_Modtools/data (or space_template) is going to affect every map you munge thereafter. Messing with assets in BF2_Modtools/assets isn't going to do anything, except of course leave you with missing/modified original assets. There's nothing to be gained nor is there anything to be changed by modifying the assets folder.

That being said, it's still very sound advice not to touch or change anything outside of your actual mod's data folder.
