Glow with MshEx

I followed the tutorial for glow, and since I have XSI Modtool 6.01, I tried using the Vertex Lighting method. I successfully applied a vertex map, but when I exported and ran it through MeshTool, it didn't glow at all in-game. Why is this, and how can I make it glow without needing the full version of XSI?
