Free version of 3dsmax = gmax, a very good tool in my opinion.

As for getting it into XSI, very simple, yet lengthy process of exporting to .MD3 from 3dsmax, and then converting it to XSI using a tool called biturn. Wavefront .obj never seemed to work for me, my model would be compressed and compacted whenever I imported.

Some of the UVs on the front are a little off, but can easily be fixed.

EDIT
You could just use Noesis to import .glm and convert it to .obj then import that into XSI.

Nice :D. Astute's method didn't work for me (the model went in fine but the texture didn't show) so I guess I'll have to get Milkshape after all. Is there any trial that doesn't have a time limit by any chance?

To clear things up:

-JKA player models that came with the game were released to the public. So long as you give credit to Raven Software (which JK514 didn't do, saying they weren't from JKA) they are usable.
-Community-made models need the permission of the original author
-Shipped JKA weapon models were NOT released to the public, and cannot be converted legally.

Just a general warning, if anyone claims a model isn't converted when it clearly is will be severly dealt with.

Well, I figured that, "If I, the absolute 3D modeling n00b can do this, anyone can."

So I tried it out. :D

First I tried the DC-15A Blaster Rifle (since it had already been done I knew it would work ;) ).

And finally, I found a cool looking sword to convert that might be useful in a certain LotR map if those people should ever start working on it again. *hint, hint* *nudge, nudge*

This is soooo easy! :D

I've got the .xsi models. If anyone wants to export to .msh for me, I'll test 'em out. :)

This is going way better than I'd expected. I suggest that we release a source pack once we've got the models in-game.

Yeahhh!!! Sniper rifle! Love it! Make a black skin instead of a brown one, and we've got an awesome model.

@Phazon_Elite: I knew you'd like that one... Didn't post it, though - though it was irrelevant.
