Attach skeleton to unit msh.
Anyone got a quick tut on how to attach Pyc0's beta bones to a unit mesh for easy "pose" manipulation?

1. Select your Unit Mesh.
2. Go to Animate>Deform>Envelope>Set Envelope. Then in explorer view, select all the bones (bones only, no roots or nulls) an hit right click to finish. Keep the settings as they are.
For editing the weights to make the bones move the proper parts see this thread.

Does it really matter in which layers those bones are? Or can you just leave them somewhere

Don't even worry about the layers, you don't need layers, it just makes it easier to make selections in XSI, you can do the same thing with Groups, just select all the bones and press ctrl+G to create a group with just the bones in it.

Okay great. Before exporting, do all objects have to be merged in one? (i understand the bones won't, i'm talking about the msh part)

Yup, all parts of the unit model have to be merged into one Polymesh-> Model>Create>Polymesh>Merge. All models used in SWBF1&2 have to be single meshs.
