Is there any way to add easily camo to a unit other than just drawing it in? I tried finding a generic camo image and selecting the region to have camo and filling it in with half-opacity (or a bit less), but that didn't come out too well.
I was wondering because I saw a few pics from that Terra Strife beta and they got me thinking.
I use GIMP, by the way, if that changes things.

Re: Camo skinning
Yes, there is an easy way to do this. Let's say I want to make a camouflage clone trooper. Open up the clone trooper skin and go Color>Hue-Saturation. Set the Saturation to -100 and click OK. Then go Layer>Transparency>Color to Alpha. White should be the default color so just click OK. Now set this image aside and open up a new image (512x512). Now fill this this image with your camouflage texture. Then copy/cut and paste your edited clone trooper skin over the camouflage texture and anchor it. If the skin turns out too dark you could always brighten up the camouflage before pasting the clone trooper skin (or any other skin) over it.

Re: Camo skinning
I had another way that was pretty interesting, although the camo wasn't exactly realistic-looking, but it still looked like camo.
Open up the skin you were going to edit. Make a new layer over it. Create some solid noise in that layer. Go to color to alpha. Hit okay, you want to be rid of white. Although, you can also open up the color thing and change the number/letter thing from "ffffff" to "888888" an that will work too. Then you go to colors>colorize. You then select a color you like an hit okay. When I did this, it came out like this:
Of course, I only did it on certain parts of the texture.

Fluffy, when I tried your method, I got a whole bunch of random dots, kinda like static except a bit more spread out.
Icemember, I use GIMP.
AQT- that sounds like it would work, but that assumes you have a good camo texture to start with, which I don't.

Oh. Hehe. I forgot to say. Solid noise is gotten by going to Filters>Render>Clouds>Solid Noise.

@Fiodis: You can use this texture
or just search for "camouflage texture" on Google Image. There are plenty of good ones out there.

Wow, Fluffy. For what I wanted, that method worked out extremely well. Thank you.
But just in case there's a case that that doesn't work out well, can anyone think of any more fancy GIMP tricks?
Oh, AQT, thanks for that. It is a lot better than the other camos I found. I suppose I shouldn't look through Turbosquid for textures.
Indeed.
