Slight Object Movements in ZE

Post by Null_1138 »

Sometimes when I move objects in ZE, even when they are snapped to grid, they will "slide" on the X and Z axes whenever the "C" key (the move object key) is held. This leaves minute but noticeable holes between objects, especially walls. Is there a way to prevent this?

Don't use "snap to grid." That will snap them to the grid and make precision placement more difficult. Snap to grid is fine if you have several models that were designed to be placed together, but if you're mixing-and-matching models (as most people are), snap to grid is not your friend.

Ok, but I'm using only Rhen Var props, specifically ones from Citadel. Even then, small holes will develop in between the walls.

I had the same problem, are you ALWAYS opening your map with "build accurate collision" ? if you do, the objects are supposed to snap together pretty well, but if not, you will constantly see gaps, holes, etc.

Objects are not supposed to snap together if you have "Build accurate object collision" checked. They snap together if you have Snap to Grid on, and not always evenly.

Build collision + snap to grid is the thing, even with the grid but no accurate collision they might look well in ZE and totally horrible in-game.

BTW, sometimes even if you use some precise location of your objects they might look odd, stretching the basic terrain has some limitations, like stretching and giving hape to a piece of fabric, it might strech enough sometimes, but sometimes it won't stretch enough.

Them looking horrible in-game as a result of forgetting to build accurate collision has nothing to do with "snapping together". Also, stretching terrain (do you mean raising/lowering?) has nothing to do with the OP's problem. I've run into this myself, actually, where if I hold down c and the middle mouse button, sometimes objects will slide by themselves without me ever moving the mouse. I don't know what causes it (it isn't not building accurate collision), but it only happens with some props (and rarely). My advice to you is just to be as precise as you can and let go of the middle button whenever possible.
