I was trying to get a shadow volume onto Pharacida's DC-15A Rifle model but it doesn't work, is it too high poly..? Or did somethiing go wrong in the conversion into a mesh?

I would majorly reduce the polygons on any shadow volume. You could also model it by hand, you should be able to make due with 2-3 cylinders, and a cube or two and merge. That way it's real low poly.
