The normal reason people don't post is because they don't know what to do or they don't care. I think that, in this case, it is because it looks as if you have done evrything right, but nobody really knows what else to try. I just thought of something then though.

Is the name of your units req "221_inf_trooper.req"? because if not, the unit will not be munged into the side.....

Can you post the name of you tga file exactly and what size it is. Also what the name of your model is. I may have missed it if you did mention them already.

His tga is rep_inf_ep3trooper or something like that, he mentioned it in his units .req file on the 1st page. THe method he is using doesn't use a new model. All he needs is the texture, no model needed.

EDIT: Okay, i started off with one texture, i followed the tut by making my sides folder, making all the files (req's) and then my problems started. When i munged my side the lvl files werent included in the finish map folder. So i took the tga bit out of my unit REQ and i changed my side from 221 to clo. (also changed the file names and unit names) Then I added the folder that Tean said.

I basicly did everything that everyone said to do.

EDIT: So right now the side is set up right but the skin just dosent change

Oh, forgot to tell ya that, bit, but yeah, i did that to, so it really is the skins just not showing up.

EDIT: I think im just gonna have to redo the entire side, hope it gets rid of the problem!

EDIT 2: I followed a tutorial that told me how to make a skins only side, but like all the tutorials I've been following lately, it didn't work. What I did was I made a new side folder, made MSH and REQ folders inside of that. I put all of my edited skins into the MSH folder and I made an req file for every skin and I put all of those into the REQ folder.

The REQ for the unit looks like this: Then I made the req file for the side. I then went into the lua scripting and the tutorial told me that I had to read the new side last so the changes would be made.

Thats all it told me to do, so I munged the map with the new side and what do ya know, the changes hadn't happend..... Any help is much appreciated.....

Your problem is not minimizing side size but rather setting up a new side correctly. And please do not create a new topic when your original one was still fine.

If you are taking the normal everyday meaing of "read" then you are doing it wrong. Can you be more specific with all the steps you took?

Why have they been merged, its a totaly diferent prolem all together!

Ok then. So why is there no change for you? The tutorial you mentioned HERE was pretty clear I'd say. I followed it myself and the skin I desired to show up, showed up. Here's my work:

In my side folder called shock I have a file called shock.req and two folders, msh and req.

shock.req In the req folder is imp_inf_clonetrooper.req In the msh folder I have the files imp_inf_clonetrooper.tga and imp_inf_clonetrooper.tga.option. The last side I am loading in my LUA looks like this: And all this worked. Where does your problem lie?

AQT - How does the game know what model to give your texture? As in, what if you're making a rebel texture. Will it automatically place it on the model with the same uv layout or what??

Could me not having the option file make it not work because if thats true then thats where my problem lies!!! Ill try it now!!!!!!!

I tried a manual clean and it still dosent work!

Okay, False Alarm, It works now, I just made an error in the side folder, a bit of the scripting!

Well, let's say I want to use this method to reskin the stock stormtrooper. I would then have to load a unit from the imp.lvl in my LUA that uses the imp_inf_stormtrooper MSH (which in turn uses the imp_inf_trooper TGA) such as imp_inf_rifleman. It goes first followed by my custom side/"unit" (which would reference my custom TGA, also called imp_inf_trooper) in the LUA. Because this "unit" loads last and references a texture whose name is the same as the TGA of the MSH of imp_inf_rifleman, it overwrites it and so you see the custom texture.

ok thanks for that AQT. i always thought that you had to give the texture the same name as the original, so that the game knew which one to overwrite....

Ahhhah, what you just said lucas could help me with one of my other problems!!!
