Re: Rebel Ops: The Vace Thermill Missions
That's what I was about to say, this looks just about as lit-up as about 3 meters (max) deep in a bright, Caribbean sun-lit beach.Skyhammer_216 wrote:Hmmm, no offence meant by this Mav (haven't played that map on Pod Racer), but:
Isn't that a bit light for deep sea? I mean, really light, like sunny day on the surface light. It starts to get dark at about 20-40 metres underwater (trust me, I know this for sure) even on a bright day.
Although it still looks beautiful

What's wrong with Sun-lit beach water? I get depressed by maps with dark lighting (ie, Majin Revan's RotE 5)

Well the map is called "Aquilarus: Deep Sea" so I'm just pointing out that a deep sea doesn't look like that.
Of course I realize the bright lighting is for gameplay and visual purposes, but I do suggest possibly setting this map in a less deep environment, such as with coral, cliffs, and things like that.

More purple and foggy perhaps. But this is Maveritchell's version anyway, so he has the creative license to do whatever he wants. And it looks pretty stellar, so you can't really argue

Well yes of course it is Mav's map and it does look beautiful, I'm just suggesting perhaps some refining to make it a bit more realistic

Re: Rebel Ops: The Vace Thermill Missions
My only gripe about past versions of underwater maps has been how hard it is to see and how lost some of the detail gets in the darkness. Both Manaan: Murky Depths and Penguin's underwater map are beautifully designed maps, but you'd hardly notice it for as far as you can see in them.Taivyx wrote:Well yes of course it is Mav's map and it does look beautiful, I'm just suggesting perhaps some refining to make it a bit more realistic
I tend to like the more "Caribbean" feel, as someone put it earlier. I know it's not realistic for deep underwater, but ya'll can either justify it by pretending that it's really, really clear water, or you can just accept that I like how it looks this way better.

there are also underwater kamino and mon calamari maps (both pretty dark)
so i think its ok to have something different, and as someone said, its Maveritchell's map and he is the one who decides how should it look like

Quick question, in the first screenshot I noticed that there are tunnels that you fight in.
Are the battles going to be exclusively tunnel-based, or will there be action of sorts outside of the tunnels as well?

If you want to appease those with concerns about the lighting you could put in "artificial lighting" machines that float up above the sea floor just as a subtle but legit exposition as to why it's so well-lit.

Re: Rebel Ops: The Vace Thermill Missions
My plan right now is to have interior-only fighting. There are four submarine docks off of the outside of the mining facility's ring, so there is submarine access to the outside. (The docks are landing regions, though, so once you've launched the submarines you can only re-dock in the docks - you can't get out of them anywhere.Taivyx wrote:Quick question, in the first screenshot I noticed that there are tunnels that you fight in.

Edit:

That's the general idea. (It also lets you see exactly how this is still quite a ways from being done.)

Now it looks even better! I really like the submarine's engine effects, good job on that!

Love the vid, Mav. Subs are definitely something SWBF1/2 could do that hasn't been done well -- but I can already tell you know exactly how to make em great. My only suggestion is more bubbles or a jet stream from the exaust.
Looking forward to having this on my permanent playlist.
