I would like my question answering on GIMP layers - when I open some things in GIMP, for instance the gammorean axe, it comes up with a board that looks like a chessboard. How would you get rid of this so I can edit the axe without the annoying layer? Thanks a bunch for telling me

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
Search the Modding forum and/ or Modding FAQ. This has been answered before.
Also, why is this in the 3D Modeling and Animation forum?

GIMP is not modeling. Since you brag about your post count, you should know all this by now.

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
Brag? Excuse me but I'm not bragging! I haven't used GIMP much as I don't do skinning but I'm learning how to now.. Geez what are people like these days....
And would you mind telling me exactly what the link is to it because I cannot seem to see any mention of layers...? Only alpha channels..is that it?

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
Basic skinning knowledge:
The "checkerboard" is a blank background. If you can see it through a skin, that means the skin has an alpha channel, also known as transparency. Check out Mav's excellent video tutorial on working with Alpha channels in the FAQ thread under the "skinning" section.

Yes, DL the video tutorial on alpha channels, this is what you are experiencing.Frisbeetarian wrote:Allow me to redirect you to the FAQ; it addresses your exact problem.

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
i watched the video but it didn't make much sense to a beginner skinner like me - couldn't someone else just post the gammorean axe skin and I can edit from there and just overide the texture? TIA.

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
Even if we post the skin with the alpha channel removed, you would need to re-apply it.

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
No I'll just copy a axe skin and copy it over the top and add OverrideTexture in the odf - it works I'm pretty sure, as I done that and it's worked before..

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
OverrideTexture has to be enabled on the model. That ODF parameter only works with those models.

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
If you just paste another skin on top, that'll be the new skin for the model. There's no reason to have OverrideTexture - it doesn't do anything in this case.Par3210 wrote:No I'll just copy a axe skin and copy it over the top and add OverrideTexture in the odf - it works I'm pretty sure, as I done that and it's worked before..
Did you even try to understand the video tutorial? It sounds like you just watched it and didn't understand it at first, so you just gave up. Not a good attitude to have as a modder.

Re: Question on GIMP Layers
I don't think there is any ODF parameter called GeometryTexture. And even if you paste parts over the stock skin, you'll still need to apply and alpha channel to stop it from coming out strange.
