SWBF2 Facts and Rumors

Post by Gynt_Ryles »

I am starting this thread to list all the known features of SWBF2, since I've only seen wish lists and the LA forums in disarray.

Space Battles:
-dogfighting done right: barrel rolls and turbo functions
-ability to land in capital ships, and man turrets, sabotage shield generators, and fight in corridors and armories
-destructible frigates and corvettes between the capital ships
-only two classes available in space: soldiers and pilots
-troop transports for each faction; Sentinal-class landing craft confirmed for Empire; Rebel Troop Transport (I might be able to get a pic. Be patient.)
-cap ships can be sabotaged (such as destroying a shield generator), turrets can be manned, turrets can be used to shoot their own ship
_______________________________________________________________________________________________
Jedi/Sith:
-known playable Jedi/Sith: Mace Windu, Darth Vader, General Grievous, Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker, Count Dooku, Yoda, Emperor Palpatine and probably Anakin Skywalker
-when certain objectives are completed (such as capturing a certain CP), you can play as Jedi/Sith
-Jedi/Sith have lightsabers and Force powers
-Force powers are Force Push and Pull, and Force Choke and Sith Lightning (Sith only).
-all Jedi have Force Speed and Jump (Sith might too, but that's unconfirmed)
-Obi-Wan gets Force Pull, Darth Vader gets Force Choke, Darth Maul gets double-bladed lightsaber and Force Jump, Grievous gets four lightsabers (no Force powers because he is not a Jedi/Sith)

-Jedi/Sith have timers: completing objectives prolongs your time playin as them, and spawn-camping and hiding in corners decreases your time playing.
-instead of falling over dead, "killed" Jedi/Sith leave gracefully
-Jedi/Sith can only be played in 3rd person view
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Historical Campaing and Galactic Conquest:
-Historical Campaign follows Vader's 501st Legion
-Galactic Conquest has been redone
______________________________________________________________________________________________
New Battlefields:
-Coruscant space battle
-Coruscant: Jedi Temple
-Mustafar
-Utapau
-Tantive IV
-Death Star interior
-GCW space battle over Kashyyyk
-Endor space battle
-Polis Massa
-Dagobah
-Jabba's Palace (new, revised version)
-there will be 12 new maps; to add more variety there will only be one map per planet (space doesn't count, which explains the two Coruscant maps), and the original maps will also be included*

*All old maps will be made bigger and more accurate. Geonosis has gotten a major overhaul, and the spires and hangars and stuff that was cut will be put back in.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Troops:
-depending upon the battle, clones will alternate between Ep2 and Ep3 skins
-each faction will have a new sixth class: the commander; Republic gets Clone Commander (with chain gun; purple uniform); Empire gets Imperial Officer; Bothan Spy for Rebels, and probably the Tactical Droid for CIS
-on ground battles, the pilot will be replaced with the Engineer
-Droideka now has blue shield (instead of the incorrect white ones)
-all units now have a limited sprint ability (cannot shoot while sprinting)
-the commander class can see enemy units on the mini-map and give a defensive bluff to nearby teammates (boosts morale; troos fight and doge better)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Vehicles:
-AT-RT
-Tank Droid
-Sentinal shuttle
-A-Wing
-TIE-Interceptor
-ARC-170
-V-Wing
-Jedi Starfighter (Ep3 variation)
-GG's starfighter
-Vulture Droid (reskinned Droid Starfighter; now converts to walk mode when landed)
-Tri-Fighter
-Mon Cal Cruiser, Star Destroyer, Venator Star Destroyer, Providence Cruiser (Cap ships that can be boarded and have hangars; none are pilotable)
-frigates and corvettes include Aclamator Assault Ship, BC Frigate, Rebel Blockade Runner, unknown Imperial Cruiser, Trade Federation Lucrehulk ring transport, Rebel Frigate (all are destroyable; cannot be boarded or piloted)
-starfighters do not have cockpit views

Note: These are the new vehicles for the new levels. All old vehicles are returning because they appear in the old maps. Old vehicles to be included in new maps are: IFT-X, AAT, Republic Gunship, all original starfighters and bombers.

Here's an archive of SWBF2 news: http://starwarsbattlefront.filefront.co ... date;18819
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Controls:
-revamped starfighter controls are easier to use
-entering/exiting vehicles is now easier (How? I have no idea.)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Weapons:
-all blaster bolts travel faster
-DN Bolt Caster is faster, can shoot longer, shoot more times before overheating, and is overall better
-all weapons now have correct sounds (most noticeably the E-11)
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Release:
-November 1, alongside the ROTS DVD
______________________________________________________________________________________________
New Gameplay Modes:
-Deathmatch
-Team Deathmatch
-Capture the Flag
-Attack and Defend
-Hunt
-Tug-of-War
-each map will have the gameplay mode most suited to the layout.
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Command Posts:
-units can now change their class at a friendly CP without dying
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Multiplayer:
-PC players will now support 64 players online; 32 for Xbox; and 24 for PS2
-the host of a match will set the guidelines for becoming a Jedi/Sith (such as player with highest or lowest score, or on a first-come first-serve basis)
-unlocked framerate
-mulitplayer stats
-4-player splitscreen offline for Xbox
-some new kind of buddy finding system
______________________________________________________________________________________________
General:
-improved AI
-new objective-based gameplay: the object of a battle is no longer centered around CPs and the ticket bar; objectives include, but are not limited to: stealing top secret plans (Bothan Spies on Death Star, anyone?), protecting an AI character (such as Leia on Tantive IV), destroying a certain building, or holding a CP for a certain time.
- no more hiding in corners while the canon fodder do the work; the player now has an active role where their actions affect the outcome of the battle
-new smarter, more intuitive HUD
-you can now see an allie's helath and unit type when you target him
-simpler, context sensitive squad commands
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Graphics:
-better shadows, lighing, and reflections
-improved bumpmapping
-better hi-res textures
-better overall performance
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Demo:
-Xbox version coming soon in the Official Xbox Magazine (OXM)
-PS2 version coming soon in the Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
-PC version available for download this fall
-PSP version un-announced
______________________________________________________________________________________________
Game Progress:
-SWBF2 is 90% complete
-bugs and glitches are being fixed, enviroments are being finished and detailed, tuning and balancing is being done, and the game is being polished and usability tested

>V-wing
>TIE-Interceptor

Are they takeing advantage of a free download or did they make them thierselves? :)

Did you know that the Officer classes (for rebels and imps at least) are in SWBF 1? They came with the game and are litterally just taking up space, unless you downloaded a modmap that uses them.

Thanks -_-, I updated the list now.

And Ace, I knew about the officer class being shipped with the game. Psych0fred posted some localization keys or something like that a while back, and I noticed a unit entitled "Tactical Droid," which is where I got the name from. there's a ton of omitted stuff that shipped with the game, including the Rebel Hovernaut and MTT.

Here's my list (that I've made several times) over at LA:

Clone engineer and commander, Imperial Troop Transport, AT-XT, Naboo Star-fighter and many others are also missing in SWBF. :(
PS : Gynt', thanks for the list of SWBF II features...

Oh, Ace, the the V-Wing for SWBF2 is the Old Republic's V-Wing interceptor/starfighter, not L-5-R's New Republic V-Wing airspeeder. The TIE Interceptor they are doing themselves, although Saturn did such a great job I don't really see a difference.

Check my original post, I have updated. Let me know if the blue is too hard to read so I can change it.

Thanks for doing this Gynt! Yes, the blue is kinda hard to read. LOL I suggest using yellow or orange.

Okay, the color is fixed.

Well, I started this because over LA, a bunch of this would discuss something (like what the Rebel Troop Transport is going to be). Then they all left, and all the newbies started asking questions that had been asked and answered months ago, and was now generic, old news. I have looked everywhere for the tiniest tidbits of info, and have come up with this list. Shara Miller (the head honcho behind SWBF2) has recently disclosed that all the map-making and vehicles are done, and that now the game is being polished. Artists are finishing off the levels, AI are being fine-tuned, and all bugs are being fixed.

I hope this gets stickied.

P.S. How do I add screenshots to my posts?

Go there and make an account. It's free. You can upload pictures there to give them URLs. Copy and paste the URL of pictures you upload, to a post here at gametoast. Highlight the pasted URL. Below the message icons, you'll see a set of black boxes. Choose the one that says Img. The highlighted URL should now be between two boxes that both say Img. Preview your post to see if it worked. If not just try following the steps again. Example....

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v631/ ... Screen.bmp

You would highlight that.

Then you would click on the black box that says Img.

Then when you post your message it should have the screenshot attatched to it like this:

EDIT- For some reason it's not working for me...but I'm sure that's how you do it.

Wow, you're well informed, Gynt' ! Have you got any information about SWBF II modding tools ?
Gynt_Ryles

Post by Gynt_Ryles »

Nope, wish I did. However, I foresee modding this game a nightmare. The objective-based gameplay and Jedi/Sith playable once thing is going to make modding this game harder. I hope we get supported tools from LA this time. Wasn't it psych0fred who made us the tools? Anyway, I might be able to post some screenhots of the Rebel Troop Transport this week.

No cockpit views ?! But why ? :(

PS : I didn't know that before, but psych0fred is one of SWBF Mod Tools developer, and not only an "occasional" modder... So, do not pay attention to my previous post...

I read an interview saying that a new gametype was Tug-Of-War. I'm not sure how that fits into Battlefront but...
