Hey guys, I can't hear footsteps in my map, what's wrong?
(it only happens on terrain, not on props)
No footsteps?

Depends on what you're trying to do and what default soundbank your using. For instance, if you have a snow map but load Coruscant's SFX, Coruscant's SFX bank does not have footstep sounds for snow.
That old method for calling in vehicle sounds not in the level should theoretically work for footstep sounds too as they are loaded via separate config files IIRC.

I did slight modifications to the basic custom map created by the mod tools: I added some rocks and changed the terrain\sky texture.
The .lua is calling for the tat2 sfx file - and a custom made one with a few weapon sounds.
One weird thing I've noticed is that when I spawn with the trooper, I can not hear his footsteps, but, if I jump on a rock and then I go back to the terrain, I can.
