That may be true, but GH1 and GH2 were developed by Harmonix, and then RB1 came out at around the same time as GH3. And I know that GH1 an GH2 were better than at least GH3, so in that sense, RB has been around for about the same time as GH, as Neversoft screwed up GH too much to be considered the same series IMO.Lord Bardar wrote:Guitar Hero has also been around much longer than Rock Band.

Old new is old Tean. Also, that move could have been seen a mile away. It's business move. Think about it. O here are some for now, then we'll release the rest later. Gets people to keep their older games and allows them time to fool around. And more money.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
Clearly -- but that's my point. It's a ... oh unethical is too strong ... shady? business move. But this further proves my point that Harmonix and company care about the masses versus the money, which coincidentally is why they're rolling in it. Sure, Neversoft/Activision is too, but look at the two business models and how they both make money -- yet one is all about the money, and the other just knows the money will come when you take care of consumers.Moving_Target wrote:That move could have been seen a mile away. Bottom line is when it comes to gameplay I suppose it's personal choice. I prefer the music video game made by musicians versus the music video game by non-musicians. GH lovers have their place - they've got increased difficulty even if it doesn't match the song. If it doesn't matter to you (I.E. so long as it's close to what it should be) you're set. Me, I'm a purist, and I really don't like Activision's business styles, so the clear choice by a landslide is Rock Band, and always will be.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
Then again looks who's leading Activision. Didn't even clearly state that he will milk any successful franchise for money?
Whatever, it's going to happen. I don't agree either. Like you said, in the end it comes down to circles or squares.
My choice was made when VV supported DLC in a better way than RB1 and RB2 for Wii. I think RB is the better choice for 360/PS3.

Hehehehe
--love that pic.
Oh by the way -- if you have the Homebrew Channel you can use a program called RawkSD to port your Rock Band 1/track pack discs to Rock Band 2 as DLC. It also exports Guitar Hero 3 and Guitar Hero Aerosmith songs. Doesn't have much to do with the companies, but it does help RB2.

Wow. I love mods, but I don't do them on consoles. I'm a bit casual on my Wii.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
Well, I know that RawkSD can be used to get custom charts ingame. Of course, I really want to learn HOW to make custom charts in the first place... My friends and I have always wanted a song that is just a 2-minute BRE.
And there's another RB plus. The Big Rock Endings and the Solos. Those aren't in GH, and the solos are great for adding on points as BREs are just awesome. My friend actually broke his drum pedal while doing them, though, so I guess that's a plus for GH, that you're never trying to get in as many beats as you can just so that you can rack of the points and risk breaking your instrument.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
Wow, RawkSD now (as of today) actually supports ALL Guitar Hero/Rock Band files from Wii AND PS2. So that means all the Guitar Hero games on the Wii, Guitar Hero 3 --> Guitar Hero 5, Rock Band 1 plus all track packs, PLUS the ability to import songs from Guitar Hero 1, 2 and 80s from the PS2 if you have them. For those counting, that's a total of 613 songs MORE than what's on Rock Band 2! Of course you have to have the discs, but putting them all in one program means close to 700 songs all from one disc!!! I'm sure once The Beatles: Rock Band, LEGO Rock Band and Guitar Hero: Van Halen come out they'll be supported too. If only something like this existed for the 360!Fluffy_the_ic wrote:Well, I know that RawkSD can be used to get custom charts ingame. Sad thing is, RB2 hasn't come out in Australia yet so I haven't been able to try it out.. that's why I went with World Tour.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
Don't get me wrong guys, I like the Guitar Hero games well enough. But to me it's a "good game vs amazing game" thing. Personally if I had to rate either series as a whole, I'd give the GH series an 8.9 and the RB series about a 9.5. But when it's that close in my mind I feel like I really gotta justify why one is so much better.
Oh, and I watched the gametrailers.com review of GH5. I was really impressed with a lot of the multiplayer features. I'd heard about them, but to see them up close is even better. And then the whole "play on the fly from the title screen" feature was really cool too. The link is below:

@custom songs and the RBN...
In GH's defense, they're gimmicky custom song creator IS free, and relatively simple to use by anybody on the fly. Granted, the easy-to-use feature is a double-edged sword, since it limits what you can do, but again, it's free...
According to this month's issue of Game Informer, RBN will cost you a monthly fee ($100 per month, or $200 for four months), just like any other developing software. And while you can do literally ANYTHING with all four charts and all four difficulties, that price limits who is going to create custom songs, unlike GH, where everyone's creativity (both amazing and crappy custom charts) can be uploaded and played for free.

Wow... They're dead wrong. I'm surprised they ran that, as most of the time they're pretty factual. Nope, you have a one-time fee to purchase REAPER (60 USD), which is the authoring software that Harmonix uses, and is something they don't actually own themselves. That fee was 99 USD a year last time I checked.Twilight_Warrior wrote:According to this month's issue of Game Informer, RBN will cost you a monthly fee ($100 per month, or $200 for four months), just like any other developing software.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
Dat's mah bad....I wrote that late last night. GI actually said $99 a YEAR, not month...(or $49 per four months if you don't want it for an entire year). I can scan the article and post it if anyone wants to read it/see the pics of RBN.Teancum wrote:Wow... They're dead wrong. I'm surprised they ran that, as most of the time they're pretty factual. Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
i just want to add one thing, upon darkrougeknight saying how there are extra notes added.
well of course there are bound to be notes, or anything else for that matter in this game that are not in real life, this game was not made for musicians who take account the accuracy of the music charts, nor was this game created just to test a real life musicians attentiveness and awareness and test his skills upon the guitar or any other instrument. it was made for people who have always wanted to rock, the people who air guitar at ever jimmy hendrix solo, who do powerslides in the middle of the hallway at school while listening to their ipods/ mp3 players. it is for the people with fantasies that are bound to be going nowhere, the extra notes are added to make the player feel as if he accomplishes something difficult, personally i wouldnt want to play a song that had the same 3 note interlude every other refrain, i would much rather play maybe a 4 note riff even though in real life its only 3.
it was jsut added for those who wanted to feel like they have accomplished something difficult, to feel as if they have truely played a real guitar because it was rather difficult, that is all im saying.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
But a major part of it's demographic is real life musicians who do judge based on accuracy, and to keep that demographic alive, they have to change it. Also, accuracy isn't something that only real guitar/drum players notice. When you hit a note, you expect a sound, and when you hear a sound, you expect to have just hit a note....this game was not made for musicians who take account the accuracy of the music charts, nor was this game created just to test a real life musicians attentiveness and awareness and test his skills upon the guitar or any other instrument.

Exactly. I like a lot of Neversoft's stuff, I just hate 'ghost notes' that get into every one of their games.Blade wrote:. . . When you hit a note, you expect a sound, and when you hear a sound, you expect to have just hit a note.

Tean you'd be happy. I saw on the Wii and 360 Beatles outselling GH5, but GH5 outselling on PS3. So this means multiple things, but most importantly people know how to buy good music.

Re: Guitar Hero vs Rock Band... AGAIN!
I actually feel bad about GH5. That game's feature list is really impressive, and supposedly the charting is much better, but I just can't justify $60 on the setlist, which is what I buy the games for. Out of the 85 songs I found ~15 I'd like to play, which is the worst ratio yet.
