Side Crashes Game In a Weird Way [Solved]

Post by Cleb »

Ok so I am making a mod of the cis side and I added a new unit odf(cis_inf_droid_commander) and default class(cis_inf_default_commander) and the imperial arc caster and all of its required ord, exp, msh, option and tga files. Then I addeda req file for my new unit and put it in the cis req file. Then I added it to my lua and munged it and the cis side and I have the Common side too. Then I went to play the game and it loaded but crashed right after it showed the team selection screen. I then used the BF2_modtools.exe thing and it crashed too and I looked in my error log and there were lots of weird errors in it. Please help :runaway:

My Error log:

The thing is, is that all of that stuff is in the req file and they have their own reqs in the req folder, except I don't know what that last thing is, never seen it before :?

And heres my lua if that helps:

Well, your lua says you're loading custom classes for all the cis units.

Try this to fix you lua. Change
Hidden/Spoiler:
ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\cis.lvl",
"cis_inf_rifleman",
"cis_inf_rocketeer",
"cis_inf_engineer",
"cis_inf_sniper",
"cis_inf_officer",
"cis_inf_droideka",
"cis_inf_droid_commander",
"cis_hero_darthmaul",
"cis_hover_aat")
to
Hidden/Spoiler:
ReadDataFile("dc:SIDE\\cis.lvl",
"cis_inf_droid_commander")
ReadDataFile("SIDE\\cis.lvl",
"cis_inf_rifleman",
"cis_inf_rocketeer",
"cis_inf_engineer",
"cis_inf_sniper",
"cis_inf_droideka",
"cis_hero_darthmaul",
"cis_hover_aat")
Right now you're telling the game to look for custom units for all the CIS units, if you have it the way I have above, it loads the stock cis units and your custom unit separately.

Ok, I did that, and the map doesn't crash any more, but my unit doesn't load still (you can't select him from the unit selection screen), :runaway:

To the best of my knowledge, you cannot load two different sides with the same name. The game just can't process it.

I do it all the time, with one DC and one not, and it works perfectly fine for me.

Could you create another error log?

This works fine, I do this all the time too and never had trouble with it.

The "dc" tells the game to look for files in:
LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\addon\ABC\data\_LVL_PC\SIDE
instead of:
LucasArts\Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\DATA\_LVL_PC\SIDE

Yep. "DC" stands for Downloadable Content.

Ok, heres my error log now.
Hidden/Spoiler:
Message Severity: 3
C:\Battlefront2\main\Battlefront2\Source\LuaCallbacks_Mission.cpp(866)
Lua ReadDataFile: Could not open dc:SIDE\cis.lvl

Message Severity: 2

Team missing class "cis_inf_droid_commander" (check the side's .req file)
That name is in the req file. :?

EDIT:

Ok, I saw kinetosimpus's post and decided to make a new side with my unit in it, and it worked :o and now I can play as my droid commander. Thank you all for helping!! :D

The reason for this
Hidden/Spoiler:
Message Severity: 2
C:\Battlefront2\main\Battlefront2\Source\Team.cpp(625)
Team missing class "cis_inf_droid_commander" (check the side's .req file)
is most likely this

Make sure there really is a cis.lvl in
Star Wars Battlefront II\GameData\addon\*modID*\data\_LVL_PC\SIDE

I'm glad my solution helped you, but what I wrote is completely wrong. I have no idea what I was thinking when I wrote that, I was probably high on lack of sleep or something.
