Yoda vs Sidious Senate Duel

Post by captchaossega »

Ello. New member here.

I saw evidence somewhere that there was a senate map with a Yoda vs Sidious battle and even heard it had a hunt mode so you could recreate the duel in single player.

Also I've played some maps that had AI Heroes enabled and would like to know which ultilities are the best to mod any downloaded maps to allow the computer to throw their AI hero at you. That was my biggest dissappointment with the PC version. I know of one mod that enables them on the official maps but it doesn't always seem to work and would like to experiment and learn. In case anyone was wondering, I haven't tried modding yet but I believe it's probably simple to enable AI heros on maps once have the right programs to unlock them.

Hope someone can help with either. Thanks.

Welcome to GT!

For all your questions, you might want to head over to the Modding Forum, where all the technical stuff for modding is. Since you're just getting started, I'd recommend reading up on all the docs/basic info topics in that forum. In particular, check out the FAQ, which should have the answers you seek.

For AI Heroes, the topic you want is in the Released Assets, but I'll link you to it to make things easier. :)

HeroSupport Script for modders

But yeah, definitely read up on the basics over in the FAQ before you get onto scripting something like that - while it's relatively easy and well written, I doubt you'd really understand what you're doing, unless you have prior knowledge about LUA scripting.

Also, make sure you download Notepad ++ for this kinda stuff - while it's not necesary, I'd highly recommend using it when you edit lua/other files.

I downloaded notepad++ and opened the level files with it but I get a lot of gibberish mixed in with the code, making it very hard to figure out.
I get stuff saying NUL NUL NUL EOT ENQ ETX ACK and lots of weird stuff. Should I use a different ultility or am I doing something wrong?

Technically you are requesting help, but all of this stuff goes in the modding forum. Post over there to get help with any problems you encounter while modding, ok?

In response to your question you don't open .lvl files. You usually open the .lua, .req, .odf and .option files in your mod folder, although there are others. Read all the documentation for the game before you attempt anything like this, ok? You need to learn to swim before you can jump in the deep end!

I do not know if it's possible, but if it is, can someone make a animation set that the trooper is always aiming with the weapon (while walking, while standing, while crouching, etc.)?

You could probably actually just replace the stock "idle" animation .msh files with the "aim" (not sure what they're actually called, could check) .msh files and munge a new animation set out of those.

I'm pretty sure it is possible, just give me a few minutes.

edit:
Have fun while making your paranoia trooper:

Already tested it, makes your doods aim permanently with rifles, pistols and rocket launchers.

I had the same issue with ZE; try making a similar model and using that as a ZE substitute.

Make a similar model, but not the same.

Basically Cress is saying highly detailed models with thousands and thousands of polygons will crash ZE.

That's the thing: there aren't "thousands and thousands"; there are a few thousand.

I didn't say it was the number of polygons; what I meant was that you could just create a similar model, something to act as a placeholder in ZE. I would try seeing if it works in-game (use a different model for ZE)
