Try overlaying it with a darkish color in the color panel, it should make it a bit darker. I'd try it on a little test area though, not somehwere you are going to be using for the map (So it doesn't ruin the map, possibly)
Where in the zeroeditor do you edit light? i dont see a lighting tab. could it be the sky causing the brightness?
Edit: i changed the ingame lighting settings and it did nothing
Edit Again: i changed the sky and it didnt help. can someone help me?
Edit Again : happy 2009
EDit # 4: ive heard this is a result of cusom sides and will not happen when stock sides are used, is this true?
on a snowball fight map on filefront i had this problem, too. but the terrain around me got black...(think because of ati grafics, offtopic: on nvidia its white. same thing on non textured things ingame, ati: black, nvidia: white). try it with stock sides
It's been a while since I messed around with ground colors, but have you tried messing around in the color tab? In particular, the color fill background/foreground. I seem to recall I used that to fix such problems. However, since it has been some time, I suggest being sure that you can change it back....

Thanks for the help but ive tried that and it didnt work exactly, the area around the player is still bright
Ill try again on a test map later when im not busy
Rargh. Somehow, I forgot that message earlier in the thread. Sorry about that one.
In any case, it's blatantly a contrast between foreground and background, but I am not entirely sure what could cause the difference. I know I ran into the bright ground part before, but it's been some years since then (I like tweaking sides more than maps). If I think of anything (and remember to try it when I have spare time), I will try to use it to cause the problem on one of my own maps. Without the map to toy with, I will just go backwards .
@ andeweget and laserblast i colored the terrain's forground and backround darker and tested with stock sides but i got the same results. theres still a circle of light around the player
i will try editing the texture itself and see what happens
Try switching the Terrain Quality to "Low" in your video settings. I noticed the same thing on a few custom maps I was playing and that seemed to solve it.
Don't do anything to your graphics you shouldn't need to. I think sorting problems out by changing how your system displays is lame. you may as well be told to turn your monitor brightness down to solve the bright terrain problem. Just cos you can view it how you want it to look doesn't mean anyone else using it sees it the same way, if the map is done right you wont have these problems...dont take shortcuts! I'm working on the same problem so as soon as I have a 'real' solution I'll post! Someone else also mentioned black around the player....to my knowledge it is because people are leaving out the texture detail (bump tga) in the base layer when first painting the terrain (real basic fundamentals)!
