Need Battlefront 1&2 height maps !!!

Post by Lord_Grievous »

Can someone please tell me how to get the official Battlefront 1&2 Height maps to open in ZeroEditor ???
All I can do with stupid-half-arse job-of-a-ZeroEditor is to open up every single filetype you would need to mod Battlefront EXCEPT the one filetype that exists in the folders namely those .LVL files!

I really need to get hold of those height maps :-(

Can't you just guess them?

Can't you just guess them? Or perhaps they are in the maps .req files.

Or perhaps I'm totally confused, are the height maps how high you can go on a map, is it something different entirely?

The height maps are files that contain the geographical information of a specific map, it contains info on how many valleys and hills their are and how high or low they are.

I have no idea what file extension they have, probably the .TER maps or something. The problem is that everytime I want to load a file into the ZeroEditor, I can only open every BF related file type EXCEPT the one filetype present in the folders which are the .LVL files.

Please, I would really like those heightmaps, but I have tried to work with the ZeroEditor ever since it first came out but no matter how many tutorials I read, it just won't do what I want it to do :-(

If you open the map in ZeroEdit, you can hit 'Image' then 'Save heightmap' I think.

Yeah...have I already said that I can't even get to the point of actually opening a BF map?
That's the whole problem, I simply can't get ZeroEditor to open a map for which it is specifically build!

So where exactly are the actual terrain maps to open in ZeroEditor? And is it even possible to use ZeroEditor to open an official BF map?

cause your trying to open the .lvl file and not the .wld file in the assets. Those will open the original worlds. then you can save heightmap.

Here is an example of where to look:

C:\BF2_ModTools\assets\worlds\KAM\world1

then open the .wld in ZE

Well, I managed to open a terrain map in ZeroEditor and then saved it as a 1024*1024 .TGA heightmap. But when I try and open this heightmap in either IrfanView, GeoControl or PhotoShop CS2 it always get's screwed up.

All the mountains and valleys and such are displayed as two-dimensional plates instead of full three-dimensional hills and holes!
I get the same problem with the BFME2 WorldBuilder who exports heightmaps in 16bit .RAW format, even though both the BF2 .TGA and BFME2 .RAW formats aren't specific to those game engines, they're picture file exensions that should be displayed properly with any decent image programme.

So does anyone know how to properly view a .TGA heightmap from one of the BF1&2 maps in full 3D instead of just 2D planes?
Any help would be welcome :-)

This is what I get when opening the 1024*1024 .TGA heightmap of Felucia:

Does anyone know how to properly open these BF2 heightmaps?
