Well hello there triphammer...
If you're worried about game-compatibility/legitimacy, Trip is trustworthy. If editing the .exe is some sort of forbidden taboo, I wouldn't know.

There's a big difference between reverse engineering and making a minor fix that actually helps the community, especially with a six year old game. So long as it doesn't provide some unfair advantage I don't see an issue; LucasArts moved on from SWBF2 a loooooong time ago.

The GT forum won't help people hex editing the exe. It's not allowed by the EULA and we don't want to deal with the related legal issues. Hex editing the exe to cheat and posting about it will get you banned.Fiodis wrote:I thought we weren't allowed to make changes to the exe?
GWL (TripHammer leads GWL and has helped the swbf2 comunity a lot) has discussed this exe and its fixes with LA before releasing this to the general public. LA doesn't officially approve the exe (as then they'd have to support it), but from what I've heard they aren't going to take any actions against it (all unofficially of course).
As it fixes current problems that are damaging the online players, GT won't censor it.

I haven't noticed this problem. Do they find out the admin password or something?

this topic explains it.
edit: (notices he already has posted on this thread) hmm, did you forget you read it? because it has nothing to do with the admin code mainly.

I did, but I was a little skeptical.

I know that this is a bit of a bump, but could you apply the patch to the PS2 Server executable as well? Aluigi's tool can also crash PS2 servers.

Re: FIX for Hackers crashing your Battlefront 2 Server
There are no plans to further the project for the PS2. Unfortunately, I've also received requests from some SWBF2 1.0 server admins, and the project isn't being extended to them either (that is unless you count simply updating to SWBF2 1.1
*hint hint to those peeps). With many using this fix now in 1.1... the hackers and server crashers have had to go torture the 1.0 crowd. I'm hearing from some in the SWBF1 community having problems as well.
There's more going on here than just Aluigi's proof of concept program. Passwording the server will stop some of the attacks on it's own (if that helps you). Not really a good solution if you want a public server, but it will keep out some attackers. With some attacks the attacker has to actually be in the server playing, to do the attack. However; if they're using the SWBF2hack.exe program or some other UI to attack, then many times they don't have to be in the server at all... they just need the server IP.
There was an awful lot of work that went into this fix for the server .exe 1.1 on PC. We enlisted the cooperation of several SWBF2 community server admins. Some having issues and some not. The hackers and crashers were "baited" into being the trouble makers their 'no life' selves permit. All the while we had the servers being monitored with packet sniffers, and could see exactly what was going on... and by whom the server was under attack from.
My point is... there was cooperation and coordination on many levels from several caring SWBF2 community members that went into getting this fix. A project that started a year ago when we realized we had an issue. An awful lot of time and effort from all involved. While I don't want to say "never"... it's unlikely there's going to be more versions of this fix for other game platforms or other game versions. With Lucas Arts taking down their PS2 SWBF2 patch server... I don't think you can count on them getting out a fix for you either. Never say never.. someone may pick up the torch.
GL. I wish I had better news for you.

Re: FIX for Hackers crashing your Battlefront 2 Server
Nice to see people put a lot of work into something that I bet might be taken for granted by some. I don't go online pretty much at all, so I can't really enjoy your work, but you did well with this.
