Re: Khimera Trilogy by YaNkFaN update pg3
I'd say yes to both, I love the AT-XT and the GAT has only been in one map. The Naboo Prototype map from the Conversion Pack.
But what about adding the Millennium Falcon to the beach one?

GAT's are a nice addition, however, I think the GAT model we have available is kind of dated (I'm referring to the one in the convo pack).

I think that the Falcon is a bit big for the map. It's also a huge target, so I doubt that Yank is going to add it.Nova Hawk wrote:I'd say yes to both, I love the AT-XT and the GAT has only been in one map. The Naboo Prototype map from the Conversion Pack.

Please! Please! Add the GAT, it's my favorite vehicle from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Such a misunderstood little vehicle, make sure it has missiles. When it was in "Naboo: Prototype" all it had was lasers, in the game it had missiles.

Yes to both!
I'm sure it would give this pack another extra boost, to appeal.

May I suggest adding one more hero to the mix? Like for instance:
CIS: Grevious, Durge, Jango Fett
REP: Cin Drallig, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon
ALL: Han Solo, Kyle Katarn, Corran Horn or Mara Jade
EMP: Darth Vader, Aurra Sing, Boba Fett

Re: Khimera Trilogy by YaNkFaN update pg3
thank you to all the beta testers your advice has been great right now i'm currently trying to massively overhaul the entire mappack by cutting filesize. Here is what I'm doing
running the localizations out of one map and just keeping mapname and modename for the others (cut about 8mb raw file size about 2mb from the compressed file) I also merged all the sides into one file which cut about 10mb raw about 2.5 mb from the compressed. My goal is to keep this <90mb. Before i did this it was about 89.1 now i'm down to about 85 which is a good 20mb of space left to add to the sides or what not so yea just keeping people informed. I've also PMed Tean for his running a mapack out of one addon folder if anyone has the tutorial can they upload it since the link is dead in the FAQ.

Sounds like your plains map is a lot like a map I'm working on for my Aldura series. Wide open plains, beautiful sunset...makes for a great setting, doesn't it?
I definitely look forward to seeing this. Judging by the screenshots, you've done a great job tying this all together into one cohesive setting.

The plains map is nice, but having been a beta tester, I did PM Yank with my thoughts and told him to add a little more structures. But of course, it's his map.Eggman wrote:Sounds like your plains map is a lot like a map I'm working on for my Aldura series. and i did take your suggestion there's a hint of a city now in the background along with some more ruins I want to keep the plains feel that it had but also make it more tied in to the previous map (Jungle) and next map (Streets)

If you need small objects to add interest or cover, "end_prop_boulder" works great. By sinking them into the ground and rotating them around, you can ensure that no two boulders look the same.YaNkFaN wrote:and i did take your suggestion there's a hint of a city now in the background along with some more ruins I want to keep the plains feel that it had but also make it more tied in to the previous map (Jungle) and next map (Streets)

Re: Khimera Trilogy by YaNkFaN update pg3
My review (directed not only at Yankfan as a report, but as an actual review instead):
Khimera is the best map pack I have played for SWBF II. Now, I know there aren't many of them, but the few we have available are mostly high-quality projects produced by talented individuals -making a mod is not for amateurs, I suppose- and while it is difficult to compete with the likes of Maveritchell and Xavious, Yankfan manages to sucessfully equal said standards and introduce some conceptual innovations.
This "planet-pack" (as I'm going to refer to it) is a collection of a variety of thematic battle fronts, each with a different gameplay:
Beach reminds me of Vietnam War games, patrolling gunships offer air support to a batallion of troopers attempting to break enemy fortified defenses, a suicidal mission that might end up in disaster or in the beggining of an invasion; while the defenders provide a phenomenal resistance, they are not overwhelming and the invaders have many advantages that can be used to spearhead the attack on enemy lines, providing a well balanced gameplay.
Islands (a misnomer, in my opinion) is a forestal map that reminds me of the battle of endor in a way, command posts are always changing hands, but none of them seems to be at a tactical disvantage, with fortified gun emplacements protecting the scattered CPs from flanking and direct attacks; instead of the frontal clash of forces present in Beach, Islands has a chaotic nature.
Most of the combat in Jungle happens at the river crossing the map, walkers and repulsor tanks support a contingent of soldiers in their advance, while smaller groups battle it out in the woods and ruins.
Plains has a cinematic beginning, with walkers striding alongside troops, in CW conquest there is even a dropship bringing a perfectly functional AT-TE to the battle. The map has a simple layout and is very open, with the ocasional structure here and there, while it stands as a great map by itself, it's just too... well... plain when compared to the other maps.
Streets, the shining (actually dark) jewel of the planet pack, is a ruined city (capital?) of Khimera, if you have played Virmund City, you should expect a similar quality in the structure of the city, the gameplay, however, is paced differently, while Virmund has various levels with intersections at the end of linear passages, Streets has one plane divided into two sections by a river and connected by a few bridges at the middle, CPs are placed in interesting areas across each sides. The ambience here is astonishing, literally a picture that comes to life, I won't describe it because I don't want to spoil it for anyone.
The overall theme is sustained throughout the pack, with glimpses of the next map clearly visible at the horizon, a really nice touch that makes the maps feel like they are set near each other.
The classic Yankfan sides are present, which is always a good thing, players should expect some new weapons, though. The Clone Legion is plain white, an interesting (but not completely original, I am aware of that) take on the usually colorful Clones, possibly implying a transitory stage of alleigances, whatever the case may be, I like them, they have a simple and somewhat formal appearance, similar to stormtroopers; Droids have the good and old beige B1s with a OOM security droid and a B2 thrown in the mix; The Imperial faction looks similar to that we have seen in Servorum, grey troopers with insignias of the empire while Rebels have Bothans as snipers and their usual camouflaged uniforms.
Yankfan's Khimera planet pack is a testament to the authors professional skil, a solid mod with a beautiful scenario and -most importantly- excellent gameplay. be sure to download it as soon as it is released, because this is a must-have for everyone.

Geez, Nihillo. Why did you have to do that? Now I have to clean up all this drool off my keyboard.
After that review its getting very, very hard to wait for this to come out. Must. Surpress. Impatientness!

Ya know, Nihilo, I think your review was a little too short.
EDIT:@ YaNkFaN, this map series is looking great and very atmospheric, and (after that review), I can hardly wait for the release.
