Help with making Buildings/objects

Post by Starzwarz »

Hello fellow star wars fans!

I recently got star wars battle Front 1, 2, and Republic Commando.

I would like to make some maps. But I have several questions -

1. What free program should I use to make the Building and Objects to put into it

2. How do I put the Buildings/Objects in to the map

3. Is it possible to make custom soldiers/guns/vehicles to put into the maps

My map idea is this -

It will be a fairly large map. It will have 2 villages, 1 very large city, and an Airfield. The only vehicles will be at the starting checkpoint, and at the Airfield. 1 team will start in the Large city. Then a smaller team will start at the other end at the farthest edge of the forest. There will be several rivers, and bridges. All the rest will be forest...with a couple fields with ruined villages. There will be 5 tanks, 18 speed bikes, 2 republic gun ships, 2 X-wings, and 2 Bomber droids. There will be 8 - 10 check points through out the map. Both villages will have different style houses. The Main part of the City will be the same type of materiel. And the Suburb part will be a different type of material. The will be lots of roads connects most of the Check points, and city. The only way tanks will be able to get to city will be on roads. This will be a chance for ambush. Have different villages will create several large battles at the same time.

I like the Idea very much, tell me what you think.

Also, I'm thinking maybe it would be better to get different designers for each village/city. 2 for the large and 1 for each village. Then 4 people on Objects. And 2 on the nature part.

I think having different people do stuff will add another level to the game play.

Thanks!

Welcome to Gametoast! Always glad to see new people wanting to mod Battlefront 2. I am going to assume you want to mod SWBF2, since that is the forum you posted in, but there is the element of doubt as you are brand new at this.

First off.
1) I think Blender might be your best bet, check out THIS thread to learn more about Blender and how to make SWBF models with it.

2) I suggest Downloading the BF2_ModTools , reading the Documentation that is included, and checking out THIS thread to learn how Zeroediter works (Zeroediter is the map editer).

3) Its is more than possible, it has been done hundreds of times, so there are plenty of people who can help you. Check out THIS thread and THIS guide to learn a bit about custom sides.

Check the Battlefront Modding FAQ for loads of helpful modding stuff.
I also suggest looking through the assets links thread, maybe the kind of buildings you want to use have been made before.

It may seem a little intimidating now, but it will get easier, I promise, if only a little :P

Thanks for the reply! I think I will let other people make my dream map if someone does. I just experiment around for awhile before trying to make something to release.

Also, How do you like my Map idea? Is it a do-able/good idea?

Can you take building from the default maps on the game and put them in your map?

Thanks for the reply, I hope to become a more regular forumer here!

Ok!! Thanks =) I think I will enjoy my stay!

Couple more questions -

1. Can I remove the chat on Online play

2. Will I have to set up a online internet server to play people in a 10 -12 mile radius?

Thank you for your help so far!

You'll have trouble finding people willing to mod for you. As a general rule of thumb you should always either be willing to do all the work yourself or abandon the idea. It's nice if other people help you but by no means guaranteed. Things like DMI are the exception rather than the rule.

Well, they seem a bit off topic, but -
1) I don't think so - it's probably hardcoded.

2) Yeah, unless those other users are connected to your network through something other than the internet (LAN).

As for "liking" the idea - the idea doesn't matter nearly as much as the execution. Plenty of things might sound good on paper and then be utterly impractical, or vice versa. It'll be more important to like the map rather than the idea behind it.

1)) ..That stinks, I don't like chat!

2)) What if we were all connected to the same wi-fi? our town has wi-fi

Very true. If this map was done. I would expect to take 4 - 6 months to complete it.

I want a really good looking map. Like, Good building, lots of Superb looking objects to add realism. Even though we are shooting people in white armor with light beams.

I would want to make whole new characters. In the Clone aspect. Jedi's will stay the same.

Annd, another map I want to make/be made is from the Clone wars. it is where the Arc troopers trained? it would be a GREAT tournament map. Anyone know what i'm talking about?

Sorry about the off topicness. I was trying to keep my zillion questions in one thread. And recommendations for a good tutorial for making Maps, objects, and building for SWBF 2?

Thanks
Rock on!
