Post by AlexSecura »

After the total Desaster of my previous Review of Call of Juarez.
Hope this finds a bit more Advise.

Batman Arkham Asylum

Not that im actually a big DC Fan and would love Superhero Games.
Here,I really awaited this Release and was happy that it turns out to be a very dark and insane third Person Adventure.
Gameplay-wise it totaly reminds me to Dead Space but not so bloody.
The Game contains a great Comic Story and the new -Freeflow- Combat System.
Its really impressive to fight the insane and/or arrested Gangsters with cool Moves followed by a final Finishing Move :-)
Your also able to glide with your Cape.Thats a totaly awesome and great looking Feature.
The Animations look like they would be ripped direct out of the Comics.
The Crapple Gun aka Baterang/Bat-Claw can be used in a similar way like in Bionic Commando.
Basicly to reach other Areas or to open Vent-Shafts.
But the World here is not so far open,so the usage of the Crapple Gun is limited.
The Arkham Asylum Complex is totaly awesome you feel like you would be in Alcatraz Island Penitentiary ;-)
Besides of Fighting your way through the Asylum , you do some little Detective Work while using your numerous Gadgets.

Not that i know each of them but the Villains are pretty cool ad sometimes way scary like the Sequences with Scarecrow.
I loved to read that ,the Game is based on the 70-Year Batman Franchise.
I was a big DC Fan in the early 80` and so i loved to see the similar looking Characters
like Batman,Gordon and Joker. They reminds me in total ,to the time i read Batman Comics.
You will also meet Vilians like Killer Krok,Harley Quinn,Poison Ivy,Bane,Mr. Zsasz
and The Riddler but only acoustic due to you collect through the whole Game Riddler Trophys
to unlock Gadget Upgades or unlocking Challenge Maps.
I missed a bit Ra’s al Ghul,he so would fit to this Game.

I play it on PS3 and theres plenty of free DLC like
some new Challenge Maps and the Ability to play as Joker the Challeges.

The Good in Short:
-Combines Fighting,Stealth and detective Elements perfect
-Cape gliding
-Crapple Gun (Baterang,Bat Claw)
-Detective Mode (with x-ray Scanner/or other Modifications)
-The Controls are plenty but easy and good to handle.
-You will visit the Batcave.
-a complexe Map.
-Bat-Suit and Gadget Upgrades.
-Guinness World Record for 'Most Critically Acclaimed Superhero Game Ever'.
-Great dark Gamedesign and great looking UE-3 Engine.
-Great Animations and Cutscenes
-Excellente German Voice Actors, think the Original Voices are the same good.

The little Bad in short.
-Sometimes Oracle wants to tell you something via Radio,
mostly its Girls-Talk (like bla bla blub) and slows you in gaming.
-The repeating of opening various Vent Shafts.

Since i rated Bionic Commando in the Past with 9/10,
Batman Arkham Asylum is minimum 9,5/10 For me the best Adveture Game that i played this Year.
Its not only a Game for DC Supeheroes Fans but they will sure love it.
Best Batman Game ever.I only played this one ;-)

If you like discuss or talk about it.

I. Love. Scarecrow.

Seriously, those illusion sequences were amazingly well designed...

Possible spoilers ahead:
Hidden/Spoiler:
I like how they expose a bit of Batman's fears and memories, like in that last one, where the player goes back to the beginning of the game, but this time around Batman is the one being arrested instead of the Joker, it shows that Batman has his doubts about his own sanity (he is the guy dressed as a bat afterall) and that he isn't that different from the guys he is capturing.
I love the stealthy parts -they kind of remind me of Metal Gear Solid- they change the pacing of the game, if it was just fighting all the time, you would get tired of it real fast, instead, there are times when you have to think, you need a bit of planning and patience, you can't just jump in and start punching and kicking, I like that, it's a great improvement for what would otherwise have been a straightforward beat 'em up game.

I also love the visual style, the asylum has this dirty and worn out appearance that complements the idea of "this is where they bring very insane people" nicely, I like the colors and themes, how each area is visually different from the others before it, yet still in the same venue.

Oh and that last fight?
Spoilers:
Hidden/Spoiler:
Disappointing.

The premise was great: Joker injects Batman with that titan stuff so they both turn into monstrosities, proving that they are equal monsters who will never have a place in society as humans beings, because they are "alienated" and deranged menaces... however, Batman refuses to be the same as Joker and holds his own by sheer force of will (plus an antidote) and even fights him, not as a super powered being, but as a mortal man.

But of course, when I said: "fight him," I actually meant: "beat his goons again." That was stupid. Come on, what's the point? You have already beaten these guys! Just because there are a couple chattering teeth with bombs running around, that doesn't mean the fight is any different from the rest of the game! Why deny the player this awesome battle between two symbolic forces? Why make him do this "beat the generic criminal" stuff all over again? Why not just throw him against the beast itself?
...sigh.

Oh well, even if they ruined the ending, I still love this game and I do think it's one of the best I have ever played.

Now, here is the part where I reply to Alex Secura:

Yeap, they got Mark Hamill for Joker and Kevin Conroy for Batman, these guys voiced the same characters in the highly acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series.

You got the Night Glider Trophy (a more than 100m glide)?
I loved to get that Trophy because to reach the highest Point in Akham was very tricky.

Check this out,Dude.
