*EDIT* Well, I guess I could put this topic to some use. Now that I have the mist fixed, how do I make them...bigger? There's like a bajillion parameters that say 'size' or 'scale'...
Opening up the effect in Particle Editor, completely expand all the emitter trees. Click on "Stages" under "Spawner". The size values there are what the particles initially spawn as. The size values under transformer are how the size is changed over the transformer's lifetime.

Do I *have* to do it in Particle Editor? I mean, there's a bunch of parameters in the ODF dealing with the scale and size. I already fooled with one of them and it mad the 'middle' one bigger.

'Tis kinda what I said.
you were asking if there was another way beside using PE. you only said you edited odf-parameters, so i gave you an answer correct under these circumstances. where did you say you edited the effect (not an odf) with a texteditor?
@ Padawan - I opened up the odf you're talking about and I see only four parameters possibly related to size (Min and MaxSize, as well as the Radius lines). I've never edited an effects odf file and I'm not entirely sure how effect odfs work, anyway, since most (if not all) of what you can do with them you could do just as well with Particle Editor.
I wrote a pseudotutorial for PE a while back - link. Part of it'll go over how to change the size of an effect.
meh, well, whatever floats your boat I guess. Personally, I am not as picky or anything. Only when I really want something to be amazing and flawless...
