[GT] Game Of The YEAR!
So...
Looks like 2007 is coming to a close, sadly enough ('twas a good year, for me at least) and 2008 is just around the corner.
One of the reasons, of course, that 2008, er, 2007 (getting ahead of myself here) was so great, was the amazing selection of games released!
Among the better of the games released this year are these:
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock
Blacksite: Area 51
Crysis
Call of Duty 4
GRAW II
Guitar Hero III
Hellgate: London
Mass Effect
Metroid Prime 3
Rock Band
Super Mario Galaxies
The Orange Box -(Note, I'm really torn as to whether these should be counted on as separate, or as one game. Neither way is really fair...)
-Portal
-Half-Life 2: Episode 2
-Team Fortress 2
and
TimeShift
Unreal Tournament III
(And Halo 3, of course, you didn't think I forgot it, did you?)
Read the next paragraph before you post
Well, I'm sure I forgot some, so feel free to vote for others.
There's no poll, as I'm sure you superobservant people have noticed (and will fail to notice this line.) as there are too many options, this is merely a discussion thread. In that regard, post what you think should win, and WHY
Feel free to discuss other's and your choice, but to keep it clean, please post the word "VOTE" in bold at the top of a post in which you are voting for a game. Simple enough, eh?
If there's enough interest, I could take the top 5 from here and put them in a more official poll thread, to see what game you really think deserves the "[GT] Game of The Year" honor.
VOTE (see, not that hard)
Personally, I've got one vote for Crysis in, not so much for the graphics (which are awesome) but because it's SO FUN!
Sooooo much you can do.
GRAW II is also good, even though I only played the demo, because it's so HARD! Took me about two weeks of 1-2 hours a day to beat the freakin demo..
END VOTE
So GT, what do you say?

Well my vote was for Crysis and I had a ton of good reasons explaining my reason for my vote. But after typing all of it up and forgetting to copy it right as I pressed "submit" and losing all of it, I'll edit this post later and add those reasons when I'm done kicking myself...

FYI, the only vote that really counts is your first, but by all means, please list others that you liked as well.
And Silvadalek, please enlighten me, what is "soviet robot" ?

Re: [GT] Game Of The YEAR!
Ooooh.....
Tie between Crysis and Call of Duty 4, for me.
Crysis
Pros:
Open-ended, very fun gameplay
Lifelike physics and graphics
Innovative real-time weapon modding
Amazing AI behavior (telling stories, sleeping, getting drunk)
Cons:
Yes, the graphics are amazing, but the most gamers can't afford the hardware to play above "Medium" video settings.
North Koreans can take way too much damage, taking 4 chest-shots to kill.
The TAC Launcher. Yes, it's fun whilst you're using it, but it's just way too overpowered.
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Pros:
Action-packed, EXTREMELY fun and addicting multiplayer.
Very thought-provoking singleplayer campaign full of fast-paced fun.
Wide selection of weapons, over 30 available, all great to play with.
Innovative "perks" and class creation system
Cons:
Some weapons are overpowered, but this is because the Call of Duty 4 franchise is built that way, over-the-top cinematic action
Singleplayer, while fun, is short.
Un-moddable at the moment.
If I'm absolutely forced to choose one, and one only, I'm going to go with Call of Duty 4.
And this is why I don't pick Halo 3:
Don't get me wrong, the Halo series is great, and this is the best one yet.
However, it's a console-only game. and not just console-only, but Xbox 360 only.
That puts it way down in my book. I mean, at least almost every gamer has a PC, right?
Sure, you might say it's worth getting an Xbox 360 for, but to me, spending $430 to play one game is too much.

Now you see- this argument I don't agree with.Taivyx wrote:And this is why I don't pick Halo 3:

"Every gamer" does not have a good PC, let's say Person A starts with a Windows 98, and Person B starts with the original Xbox, and they both have High-Speed Internet. Person A buys a computer with Windows XP, but finds that it needs a better Graphics Card and RAM. Person B buys an Xbox 360 and finds out that he needs A Gold Membership to play online.
Person A has now spent:
Computer/Monitor: $400
Video Card+ Other things: $250
Person B has now spent:
Xbox 360: $300-$450
Xbox Live Gold (12 month): $50
Now, the games. Halo 3, on it's own without the extra memorabilia is $60, Crysis is how much, $50?
Person A has spent $700, Person B has spent ~$500, eventually catching up to Person A in cost in ~4 years if he keeps Live that long.
Now tell me, which is cheaper?

Hm, good point.
Maybe it' s just my prejudice against the imprecise controls of the analog-stick combo that's kickin in

Fusion, if you include the monitor price, then you have to include the TV. Those images don't just appear out of thin air, even on an Xbox
Anyways, I'm sensing console wars territory, lets keep this on a "My choice is correct" discussion instead of "Your choice is wrong"
See the difference?

I'm going to vote for Call of Duty 4, reasons are as said by Taivyx.
I also liked Assassin's Creed, although I didn't played it. Interesting storyline, innovative gameplay and just plain beautiful.

Re: [GT] Game Of The YEAR!
Rock Band. With Halo 3 in a close second. Super Mario Galaxies was to much of that 'weird side of Japan' for me (I'm not knocking Japanese, every country has weird ideas), Guitar Hero 3 pulled some of my favorite characters out of the game and made me re-learn to play how Neversoft likes to. As for the rest of em, I didn't play em, and I'm not unhappy about that.Bac-Talan wrote: Assassin's Creed
