The MS Vista "eye candy" doesn't noticably do anything to performance in fact my games are running better with vista, obviously there are a few compatibility issues with Vista but these are usually with regards to drivers, not the programs themselves. As for being targeted for gaming well Halo 2 is only for Vista on PC, make of that what you will
As for DirectX 10 "stuff" I assume you mean games, because DirectX 10 is fine for XP, it's even ok for Windows 98

Im pretty sure nobodies running dx10 on xp because its only released with vista.
Also, what sort of games are you playing? Battlefront 2 isnt too hardware intense. Im not argueing with you, just curious cause me and my dad were talking about it and its either gonna be buy vista really soon, or not for a few years.

you're quite right, incredibly sorry about that here's the culprit:
MS FS is much improved and I always have tons of AI and terrain packs. BF2142 initially flagged up a "this game hasn't been tested on Vista" message but it is now on optimum settings and being more responsive. I also have a few games that I use in conjunction with my TrackIR 4, also less laggy.
For me if you say the latest version it would imply version 10, not simply an update for version 9.0cMicrosoft DirectX website wrote: Get the Latest DirectX Here
DirectX improves the graphics, security, and performance of your operating system. Download and install this update for your Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP-based system.

By MS FS do you mean flight simulator?
I saw some amazing photo's comparing flight simulator on dx9 and dx10 - they really showed a huge visual difference, i kid you not the water in the dx10 pic looked photorealistic - to the point that it looked like someone took a picture of a lake and edited it onto the photo.
I have a feeling that though windows vista is still memory intensive, its not going to make a big difference if you have the recommended memory setup.
