Localizing

Post by Cleb »

I have never localized before (never needed to) but now I do to rename my units. I tried to follow this tutorial, but when I clicked on the + sign for "entity" thing in the localization tool, I didn't see my custom side in there. If someone could please tell me how to rename stuff in my custom side that would be great. Thanks.

You'll have to add your custom side's name to the list manually.

Umm... how? When I right click, it just says "Add Root Level Key" and "Add Root Level Scope" and I don't see anything else that would help anywhere. :(

How this works is like this:
-Take the first section of your unit's name (cis_inf_blahblah)
-Find that scope under entity. If it's a non stock combo (like afj), then right click entity and click "add scope"
-Then, under that scope, right click the scope (cis) and click "add key". A new key will appear at the bottom. Type in the box ON THE LIST, NOT THE BOX TO THE RIGHT, what the rest of the unit's LUA name is (cis_inf_blahblah).
-Finally, in the big white box at the right, write what you want the unit to be called ingame (Droid Commander).

Hope this helps!

The only options I get when I right click is to add a scope at root level (the level that entity, game, ifs, etc.). I can't add one at the level that I want. :(

Not your custom side's name, but the custom unit's ODF name.

I assume your unit ODF is named cis_inf_droid_commander? Well, "cis" already exist under "entity", so just right click "cis" and add a key named "inf_droid_commander" then give the unit a proper name in the window above "Language". The tutorial tells you how to do this stuff. :?

So even if its in a custom side it would still go in "cis" if it starts with "cis_blablabla...?"

Ok I munged it when its in my custom side folder and got this error in the MungeLog:
Hidden/Spoiler:
ERROR[localizemunge Italian.cfg]:Text file syntax error. (No matching bracket)ERROR[localizemunge Italian.cfg]:Text file syntax error. (No matching bracket) [continuing]
2 Errors 0 Warnings
I don't know what to do with this error... :?

Your ODF name is what matters in the Localize tree. Did you allow the program to completely save the changes? It will prompt you when finished.

Edit:
Remember, most of what you see in the default Localize tree was done by Pandemic for organizational purposes, they had a lot more to input than we do.

Ok, I think I understand the localization tool from what I learned from this topic and just looking around. The localization tool crashes every time it saves, but when I munge it my names I entered appear in game.

Ah, the same thing happens to me with Particle Editor. It crashes after I save, but when I munge everything that was changed works ingame.

Oh well.

It crashes how? The localization tool takes a while to save changes. Are you sure you are not just confusing this long wait time for a crash?

I press the save button and it stays the same for a second, then it says (Not Responding) next to the name at the top, then the window fogs up,(I think all Windows 7 computers do that when a program is not responding) then a message pops up that says that the tool is not working and needs to close, and I close it and open it back up, all my changes are still there

The localizing tool always takes ages to save, so freezing is normal.
