Problems importing a Super Star Destroyer

Post by edge123455 »

Hey guys, i'm relatively new with all this modeling stuff. I just started learning a week ago, but anyways, I'm trying to ship an 'Empire at War' model into the XSI tools.
It is an SSD and I was able to to open it in '3d Object Comveter' with everything perfect, including the textures.

Then I save it as a obj. file and then I try to open it on XSI. But the problem is that when I try to import and open it, it seems to load for 1/4 a second but nothing shows up. I tried to zoom in as mush as possible and even opened the explorer to see if the object was there but nothing at all.
I also thought objects should take a couple of seconds to load, because i've loaded some scn. files before.

*I also saw some threads on importing EAW models and only one person had the same problem as me but the response they gave him was to zoom in because the model might be tiny, which is what i did. But nothing has worked for me..

In XSI if you focus on a viewport and press A(frame all) after import all objects should be in frame, if you still don't see anything there or in the Explorer(press 8) object list then the import must have failed.
If you see objects listed in an Explorer but don't see anything in the viewport then you may need to adjust the Clipping Planes, using Clip To Scene should bring it all into view, this is usually caused by large-scale objects.

My experience with 3d Object Converter is that it has many format plugins but some are just not written very well, you are at the mercy of the programmer who implemented them and sometimes you have to try alternative formats until you get the desired results.
