Hello members of Gametoast, I just created a profile here on Gametoast because I have a burning question that I need to ask about editing existing weapons in Star Wars: Battlefront 2.
I am a big fan of pistols, and a major opponent to "bloat/ backup guns" in game design, so I have become determined to make the various pistols in this game more powerful to my taste. I have a history of modding games, from obscure communities like Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 to enourmous ones like that of Skyrim's, and yet this game's sytem of editing assets and adding new ones is simply baffling to me! I started by doing my research on what files do what and how, such as .ODT and .LVL files, and finally made copies of all the pistol .ODTs I needed and edited them to their rightful pistol-ey glory. However, I have absolutely no idea what to do from here, as the majority of this community seems highly dedicating to executing much higher concepts such as user made assets, overhuals, new eras, whilst i'm just trying to make "pew-pew" pack a bit more "pow."Everything I read seems to be pointing towards needing to edit with maps and scripts, but that seems a bit over the top for something that takes 5-10 minutes tops in any other game?
Any and all advice, help or scolding for being daft is welcome, as I really want to experience this game with my simple pistol .ODT mod! Sorry if my form is impropper for these forums in any way: I am new, but wish to repect the members who dedicate their time to make great content for us! Thank You.

Download swbf2 mod tools and read the included documentation.
Btw, its .ODF (object definition file) not .ODT xD
Also a tip to improve pistol: Increase damage, change overheating stuff values, increase velocity and lifespawn (increasing range)

Re: How to Edit the Stats or a Pre-existing Weapon?
You'll need to use the FAQ to get some many different things and tutorials, example, creating a custom side (using the regular side assets) to silly up the weapon values.
FAQ, FAQ, FAQ, read for everything you need and use the search afterward. There are about 500 pages of modding questions now, most have been repeated and solved.
Welcome to Gametoast.
Edit:
If all you want to edit the existing weapon values, you can do basic hex editing. It's a bit boring but it is simple once you learn. I can help you with that if you need it. I have my own personal way to do it.
Note: In the SWBF game engine, the hosting person always controls hard data like weapon values, troop values, etc. This means you can mod your own game but when you join another session all players files must obey the host values. This helps cut down on cheating.
If you're intending to use multiplayer and do these things, you would want to edit the server files.
Or you can make new sides like I said at first, and just swap them over the old server files.

Re: How to Edit the Stats or a Pre-existing Weapon?
Alright, thanks for the help guys! I think i'll just use the hex editor method, as I am more familiar with it and it seems more appropriate (considering I am only changing numerical stats.) I guess i'll just open the .ODF (not ODT) file I made, and search for those values in the hex editor! Again, thanks for the help nobody3 and anthonybf2!
