What kind of models does the community need?

Post by YouJediJunkie »

Huh, I have no idea where to put this topic, but I'll give it a shot in this section.

The game has been out for almost three years now, and we've seen alot of mods - everything from epic movie battles to crazy maps that makes you wonder if the modders who did the map were on crack during the process. Loads of models have been made, and some of them have been released. As you might know, I am quite the modeller myself who wants to release the stuff I produce to this forum - Mainly because I think that mappers should think once or twice before they release the map - Only using the old stuff from the assets is pretty boring, I want custom stuff; and that is, my dear friends, models. :music:

Well, I do not want to repeat and do meshes that alredy have been released. Simple. I want my model packs to be useful and original for every girl and boy around; the problem is that I have no idea what models there are out there. So... basically, my question is exactly the same as this topic's subject. What kind of models does the community need? What do you need for your latest map? Could it be useful to anyone else? I really need help with this, because I don't feel like filling my packs with useless models that no-one will find intresting.

I have no idea if this topic is too similiar to the very official request thread - if it is - please lock it; I can continue in that thread (if that's possible of course). I don't want to be on the bad side of the staff, you know?

Good question. Cover is always a good thing to have, so maybe some sort of low wall. I personally need hallways, as I'm working on an underground map.

I know I would need some new tanks, hover tanks for the CIS. Theres a small variety of new released CIS hover tanks, and it would be cool to see some new ones. Also, player models aren't a big one here, that would be a nice thing. Maybe also some kind of starwarsish submarine?

I think there's a very real chance that this'll turn into simply a "models I want" thread, but if you don't mind, I don't mind.

Honestly, when you look at what kind of things people like to use, I think the biggest need is small buildings. Bunkers, walls, hangars, those kind of things. Those, at least in my opinion, are some of the most useful models (and that's why I like to turn to the models I find from squipple/eddie or wideboy). What you're doing now, though, is great, and by no means should you feel like you need to change that or do anything different. Whatever you like doing and whatever keeps the "I want to keep modeling" fire burning is probably best.

On a personal note, if you've finished up that transport-concept vehicle you posted a picture of in the showcase thread, I know I'd love to get my hands on it and feature it in a map.

Well, since I'm working on my Bespin map, (that everyone forgot about  ) I'd need some kinds of Bespin objects. Maybe some smaller buildings then shipped in the assets, along with maybe some boxes and perhaps a square gas platform.
Oh, and maybe a Bespin like hangar? :P

I agree; what you're doing for the community is great, YouJediJunkie. This modeling you do is fantastic, and very practcal. Keep up the great work.

Different trees would be nice. You always see either Yavin or Endor trees on any outdoor map.
It gets boring.

I want you to make.. the things that you want to make. If you're a moddeler, you need one basic skill: patience. If you're making something and you're not excited about making it, this patience won't last long, and with some small bugs, or inperfectnesses, you'll stop the model, or 'feel like finishing' it because you must..

I never post my works here anymore, but I've made a lot. Always what i want.. That makes them cooler for me, and for the rest, since things doing what you like.. Believe me you'll get better results.

Unholy Lord of Kebab Pizza.. Good luck

I have to agree with Saitek.
Other things you might consider are the everyday props like streetlights, fire hydrants, garbage cans.
Or you can have barracks, hangers or bases to go with a more military style.
This is a wonderful service to the community you're doing, JediJunkie, I'm sure everyone appreciates it very much. :D

I never thought some one would post a topic like this in a million years, this is great! I am so happy that we have such a talented moddler and who is asking us what models to make. I would have to agree that new tree models would be very useful, but you should make whatever you like.

I support trees too, (a little off-topic) but what about animating? (Back on-topic)Why not trash cans or an old Beat-up fence, the kind you see in old horror movies.

Barbed Wire! Everyone could use that in their maps! I'm also in support of trees.

You know what would be really cool, a master chief model! This would inspire so many halo maps/mods. He could also be reskined for a generic trooper model.

I know about some of the models your making Junkie and i think you should make more non- star wars models like tanks and that kinda stuff.

Like Maveritchell said it's about modeling what you want to model and enjoying it. Expanded Universe stuff is always nice and it makes everything easier. Some new weapons would be cool too, for example, new shotgun and rifle models would be great. All of your models are excellent, so I think the community will probably love whatever you make.

If you you ever get around to it, I wouldn't mind having a female wearing the Imperial officer uniform. (I refuse to reskin an existing model, since it would never look right.) Actually, I'd want several variants in addition (mostly involving the presence of a cap, hair style, and whatnot), but I'm trying to keep it realistic if you ever bother to try. :P This way, we'd be able to add people like Daala, Tavira, Isard, etc, as well as being able to add generic female Imperials, or original characters. I'd certainly find a use for it, if I don't attempt to make one myself, which may not happen for a while anyway.

I think maps need more creative turrets :D

I also support for the tree idea too, it'll make the maps look more unique
